Hi! I'm new here, but I've read the bible quite a bit, and I came across some things which were a bit unclear to me. Could someone please help me clear these up?

For example, homosexuality. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. However, a friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19- 24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

I have been a Christian all my life, my parents raised me as a Roman Catholic but as I began to teach myself more about the faith, I decided to become a Baptist at the age of 14.

I came across it while web browsing, and thought it raised some interesting points.
But I'm honestly not quite sure how to rationalize these phrases being in the Bible; many are shocking, and why would God write such things?

I've been looking for answers, but links to such discussions usually turn out to have been deleted. I was hoping if I posed as one of these internet 'trolls', it might incite someone into linking me a discussion, or better, clearing the matter up by explaining it themselves.

Well, most of the dietary laws no longer apply (Mark 7:15-19, Acts 10:12-16 and Romans 14:1-3), but according to Acts the laws against shrimp may still be in effect.

"Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat." Acts 10:12-13

So I'd be wary of it. However, if it is still prohibited, then eating shrimp is just as bad as homosexuality, murder, adultery, thievery, heathenism, or any other sin as per James 2.

It really depends on her age. Check Leviticus 27 for pricing details.

And if it be from sixty years old and above; if it be a male, then thy estimation shall be fifteen shekels, and for the female ten shekels." Leviticus 27:3-7

I agree! It can be really tough to tell when the liebral woman of today doesn't even care about how she's making everything unclean by being out and about during the time of her issue. Fortunately, the Bible is quite clear about what to do in those situations, and the answer is right in the scripture you cited.

"And whosoever toucheth her bed shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even. And whosoever toucheth any thing that she sat upon shall wash his clothes, and bathe himself in water, and be unclean until the even. And if it be on her bed, or on any thing whereon she sitteth, when he toucheth it, he shall be unclean until the even." Leviticus 15:21-23

It's probably best to just assume that any woman who isn't a True Christian(tm) you come in contact with is issuing at the moment. I agree that it's disgusting, but as long as you wash your clothes and bathe every day, you should be fine. Of course, separating yourself from all unsaved harlots is probably a better solution.

You really need to read a few other verses to understand this one in context. Leviticus 19:27 is best understood when paired with Leviticus 19:28 and Deuteronomy 14:1.

"Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard. Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD." Leviticus 19:27-28

"Ye are the children of the LORD your God: ye shall not cut yourselves, nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead." Deuteronomy 14:1

Pay special attention to "nor make any baldness between your eyes for the dead". This means that the prohibition against cutting your hair only applies for mourning practices. For example, it would be prohibited to shave your head for a funeral, but there's nothing wrong with getting a haircut when you need one.

As of right now, no. Romans 13 is very clear on the fact that we need to follow secular law, and as of right now secular law forbids killing people, even if they're working on the Sabbath.

Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil." Romans 13:1-4

Of course, this will hopefully change when we get a real Godly Republican in office. I know I can't wait for that day. Praise Jesus!

Not a problem. Now that I took the time to answer all of your questions, why don't you introduce yourself? What's your name? What church did you go to? What sort of horrifying life of sin and debauchery did you lead before finding Jesus? Favorite Bible verse?
