    Hello from Istanbul!

I was born in and raised by a muslim family in Istanbul. And like this city, which stretches between asia and europe, I have always felt confused about my identity and beliefs. I have both western and oriental qualities etc.

So for the last couple of years I have been feeling closer to christianity and I am considering to convert. But after reading these forums I feel this is even more conservative and intolerant than what people around me are practicing. Not to mention your condescending view towards us women.

Am I wrong? What do you think?
    And please be kind.

    Re: Hello from Istanbul!

    Hello Friend.

Kindness is our second nature, don't worry.

Now, you seem to have a problem with the things we believe in, and that's OK; many people do.

Yet, and this I can assure you, we are 100% following the glorious KJV 1611 (Authorized Version). We do not change one title or iota.

We do not interpret, we do not pick and choose: we believe it is 100% the True Word of God.

Conservative? Yes. But isn't that a good thing? Aren't we taking care of our heritage by not going "oh, God probably didn't mean that"?

Intolerant? Well, let me start by saying that the word tolerant does not figure in the Holy Bible. Not even once.

Intolerance is a fancy word for saying that someone has different beliefs than you have. It's a catch-all, void of meaning.

If we are intolerant, well, then you might as well call God intolerant. You wouldn't want to do that would you?

Anyway, welcome again to our forum, and I hope that you will see the error of your ways.
    Psalm 81:10:
I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt:
open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

      Hello Fatimah!

I just wanted to say that I have been to your city (as a US serviceman), and it is without a doubt one of the dirtiest cities I was ever in, but I must admit that I did admire the "town square justice" that is practiced there.

Welcome, and please thank your husband, father or brother for giving you permission to post here.

      Yours in Christ,

Hello Fatimah. Nice name by the way. I have a Portuguese friend called Fatima. I presume there's some connection.

As Brother W-O said, we are nice people interested in helping others.

Please don't judge a whole religion on some quotes you yourself are taking out of context. That type of mis-use of Scripture happens a lot in Islam as I'm sure you'll know: jihads and terrorism are testimony to that.

That doesn't happen here since we're dealing with the Bible.

Anyway, I'd urge you to stick around and read things thoroughly before jumping to the wrong conclusions. You are very important to God and ipso facto also very important to us here at LBC.

I extend the hand of welcome to you. Please hang around and learn to love Jesus.

          Re: Hello from Istanbul!

Welcome friend, I sure am happy to meet you! So you are a turkey, that most be an amazing experience.
Confusion is common among people. Finding out about God will resolve that for you. You are making the smart move, picking True Christianity. Assuming you follow God's rules to a 'T', you will be eligible to go to Heaven, perhaps we can play a round of golf together!
Tolerance and being conservative is a matter of opinion and interpretation. Being we follow the Word of God EXACTLY as written (and as God intended us to) in the KJV Bible, interpretation really becomes a moot point, don't you agree? Also, being the Bible is the Word of God, that pretty much wipes 'opinion' off the table too. Regarding conservative, well what is conservative? Does conservative mean only wearing shirts with collars? Or does it mean only snorting one tube of glue a day, not a bit more? I think you will find, we are in the middle of this road, somewhat. Now tolerance can mean many things. Tolerance to pain and excruciating suffering inflicted upon yourself (I can take a lot, I was in Nam) or inflicting it upon others? Does it mean letting people do what they want in the privacy of their own home or allowing people to do what ever they want. Again, I think you will find we are well balanced regarding this.

Tell me, what one thing about Jesus makes you smile?
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

Town Square Justice?!? You must be kidding. This is a secular, democratic country. I don't need to ask anybody's permission for anything.

Anyways, for the rest of you thanks for your kind welcome.

And what I like most about Jesus is that , I mean the way I see it is, he was the Che Guevara of his time. He was the leader of the poor and common people against the materialistic, powerful, animal-sacrificing religious class.

To me it looks like it was a spiritual-communist revolution.

On the other hand I love the confused, depressed and lost Jesus in Kazancakis' novel.

But I don't know much about this subject to be honest.

You're welcome Fatima. We all know it's nice to be nice, as long as it doesn't conflict with the Bible. You are most welcome here dear.

Which is why it's important to know when to stop talking sometimes, isn't it?

You seem to be an open, giving man like many of us here. We get so many evil doers who come here just to post pornographic pictures or say swear words, just to make us upset.
I do not think Jesus would like to be compared to Che or even Fidel. I suppose you could compare them yo Him though. You have to admit, God is light years ahead of any mere mortal man.
Jesus was not materialistic because he had no need to be. He already had EVERYTHING. God created the Heavens and the Earth and as such, it is and was His to do with as He saw fit. So If you gave Jesus a dead fish, weren't you really just giving Him something He already owns? In reality, we all take from Him and that is one of the multitude of reasons you have to prostrate yourself, get down on your knees and thank Him profusely.
I have not read the Krackistan novel. But I have read the KJV, it is a Good Book.

I believe Fatima is of the female pursasion. Shall we not establish whether or not she has her husband/father's permission to be using a computer in the first place?

                    Just a thought.

You might be right about the gender thing. Sometimes it is hard to tell unless you see a mustache and even then, you cannot be 100% sure. We shall have to see if the gender issue is clarified. Until then, questioning about permission seems a little presumptive.

You will have to forgive Brother Portaway, he just came back from a missionary mission over Thailand and Egypt and is a bit tired and annoyed from sitting on the tarmac for the last two weeks eating vending machine cheese sandwiches.

                              Wow, you sound strange.
Miss, Brother Portway may have a rather brusque way of communicating, but he is a True Christian™, and as such you will treat him with the respect he has earned while you are a guest on our holy boards.

And while we welcome peoples of all stripes here, we are proud of our American conservative beliefs and we will proudly proclaim them on our forum. Please, do not think that simply because we have an open door policy, that we for even one second would support Chinese communist propaganda being posted on our forums.

In the future, please refrain from comparing our Lord to communist criminals like Che Guevarra and Chairman Mao. Oh, and I would be remiss if I did not welcome you to our forum.
