Re: The Repenting Sinner
Ah I shall; but from what I've seen spewing forth from this place I'll be able to wait a while for him to focus his anger on my little error.

God is a stickler on grammar, pal.Originally posted by Repenting Sinner View Postoops >.< my grammatical mistake, I meant "save for" God
I have no doubt that you have enraged Jesus now. Look for His wrath coming your way."one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law" - Matthew 5:18

First of all, I'm maleOriginally posted by Zechariah Smyth View PostThere is a HUGE difference between "repenting" and "repentance" young lady.
But yes, I wholeheartedly agree with you. It's just that I don't pretend to be perfect for a single minute, if I did, I would be in the sin of pride, and (despite my numerous faults) I try to avoid that.
Nobody is perfect, let alone God, and I think it's important to recognize our own failings, and to keep trying to better ourselves, and constantly turn to God, even if we slip up, for he will accept us back in loving arms.
But your point is well taken, one should not use God's forgiveness as a get-out-of-jail-free pass from sin, I totally agree with you there.

One says "still sinning" and one says "been there done that."
Have you "done that" ?
(Luke 13:3) "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."
This is not an ongoing endeavor: you repent, you stop your sinful ways, THAT'S IT.
The Path to Eternal Life© is not some cosmic chalkboard that you can continually write your sins on, and then wipe away with some magic eraser.

You are given a clean slate: write good deeds and praise on there!

Yours in Christ,
Z. Smyth

Re: The Repenting Sinner
You seriously just made me laugh
sir, with all due respect, my Church that you claim is not Christian has been around for nearly 2 millennia, ever since the first Pentecost when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles.
Now I try to be respectful of denominations who branch off over time, but to say that the Church that has been around, and maintained the same teachings and beliefs (that's what "Orthodox" literally means, true/pure-faith. ortho-doxa in Greek) for 2000 years proclaims to be Christian falsely, is simply ludicrous.
Might I ask when your so-called "pure" or "God's-favorite" Church came into being?

The Repenting Sinner
Hello everyone, this is my "formal" introduction, having posted a few comments on this forum prior to this.
I am a Greek Orthodox Christian who currently lives in the Midwestern United States. I attend my church once a week for Divine Liturgy, and occasionally attend other Church services (such as Vespers, Pre-Sanctified Liturgy, etc.) as they are offered and based on my schedule. I am a Conservative, who almost always votes Republican, because I find it better suits my religious and moral beliefs. In addition to my own church, I also attend a Catholic mass once a week (although I do not partake of Holy Communion at it, for I consider it to be sacrilege), and I attend other denominational Churches as well, including a Baptist Church, that a good friend of my mother introduced me to.
I understand that my beliefs are probably very different from some of you on this forums, but it is my belief that as Christians, the smaller differences don't matter as much (they do matter some however) as our one unity in Christ.
I was born and raised Orthodox, and I study my faith five days a week, ranging from Biblical Theology, to Church History (not only Orthodox History, but also Catholics, Lutherans, Baptists, Anglicans, and Presbyterians), to Church Doctrine and Dogma, again in all of the previously stated denominations.
I don't consider myself to be a "righteous" man. I sin as much as the next person, but I try to repent as much as I can, and turn back to God and try to fix my shortcomings. I believe that the Church is a place for the sick, who need Christ's healing and love, and I try to avoid the attitude of superiority that sometimes can come with the assumption that a person is "saved."
Anyway, while here, I hope to engage in some stimulating conversation, and hopefully come to a greater knowledge of God.
