I want to find the truth...

"Convictions are more dangerous enemies of truth than lies."

We can argue all we want about the existence of God, Zeus, Allah, Vishnu, Tom Cruise, big bang theory, gravity etc... but it's counter productive to pick any of those and claim that it is the absolute truth.

Knowledge is a constant progress in which we gradually rid ourselves of ignorance; it never ends, ever.

To be clear, you guys are in the "counter-productive" category, it's okay to have beliefs but absolute conviction will hinder you from seeing the real truth when it eventually reveals itself.

Correct. And when we realize that God's Word is the only valid truth, we need not waste time looking at heretical alternatives that will lead us to certain sin and eternal torment in hell.

2 Timothy 3:16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:"

Psalm 100:5 "For the LORD [is] good; his mercy [is] everlasting; and his truth [endureth] to all generations."

      In Christ
Matthew 19:14 "But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven."

It ended in 1611 with the completion of the only truth worth understanding, the glorious KJV!

So, simply by claiming itself as the absolute truth, it IS the absolute truth?

God tells us truth through the good book. God is absolute truth so hence so to is His word. If you could open your mind a little you might understand it.

I think I understand: God says he is the truth, so it must be true because he just said it's true.

All you did was restate the fallacy that a source only needs to state that it is the absolute truth, and it IS the absolute truth, THE END!

If only everything was so simple!

Congratulations. You are finally getting there. Though your logic only holds in the case of source = God.

Everything really is that simple. All these non-belivers just spout nonsense to obscure the truth from anyone but True Christians. Calm yourself and perhaps you too can benefit from the wisdom of Jesus.

That is the definition of conviction right there, and the greatest enemy of truth.

Every religion has the same level of conviction as you, what's up with that?

Sorry, need to expand on that.

Their scriptures also claim they are the absolute truth and they believe it with absolute conviction, such narrow mindedness is surely obscuring the truth from them.

You're right, convicted felons do not readily see the truth or make good Christians. I've never been convicted of anything and each religion has different levels of conviction. Muslims, for example, do lots of crimes. That makes all religions different, with Christianity standing way above all the rest (who are on a slippery slope down to Hell).

True, if they weren't jews, hindus and the like, they might have a chance of reading the bible.

Sorry, I forgot to address this point.

Why is that the only case it holds up? Because God says so? That's the same fallacy that I mentioned before!

No. It's quite clearly explained in the bible.

                              Corinthians 4:3-5
But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
