Hi, my name is Charlee. Found this site while searching for some insight into Biblical teachings. Im a Christian, but I don't know much about doctrine or things of that nature. I've tried reading the Bible but every time I ask for an explanation on something I don't understand I get several different interpretations. Members of this forum seem to know where they stand and have a good knowledge of the Bible. So can I get some help? Please?

Well I don't go to church. Every time I try Im only greeted with more confusion. And my biggest question is that of Hell. Who goes and why? If God is a being of love then why do people go to Hell? I've been told that everyone goes to Hell or that there is no Hell. What's right?

In Ecclesiastes 9, we are told that the dead are unknowing. So, no, Grandma isn't watching you from Heaven. She's dead.

In Revelation 20-22, we are told about Judgment. First, the Saved will be resurrected and reign with Jesus for 1,000 years.

Then, God will resurrect all the sinners into immortal bodies. He will tell them their sins and cast them into His Lake of Fire, Hell, where they will be burned alive for all eternity.

Hell is very real.

Matthew 13:41-42 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

It's part of a larger parable of the sheep and goats in Matthew 25:31-46.

Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Continue in Revelation 20-22, and you will see that the old Earth is destroyed, and the old Heaven. God creates a new Heaven and a new Earth, where the Saved will live with Him forever.

Now I'm just a silly monkey-worshipping atheist, but it seems to me that any gods worth their salt, if they insisted on having books that contain their "word", would make sure those books were clear and concise and would leave no room for interpretation.
Why would you believe in a god who would torture people forever because they didn't correctly understand a convoluted mess of a book? For that matter, why would you believe in a god who would torture people forever, period?
