  • My Problems with Papist Doctrine - and why I'm here.

    Hey,

how you all doing? I hope you're good. I can't sleep tonight and I've been studying for my exams too even though it's Saturday, so I thought I would share some tiem with you and explain a little about why I've abañdoned the catholic faith i was kind of brought up in in the usual and typical Mediterranean semi-pagan style.

In fact, I think I just said it all, mostly!

Anyway, it seems I can only post threads in here so here it go:

Well, the fact is there's more than one thing I found atrocious with catolicism.

    1) The lack of respect for the Lord's House. In church they all wander in and out and chat and go every 3 months

    2) The 'recruitment drive' for first communions. When I was at school the nuns just told us we had to. Not 'would you like to' make your first com., no you had to or else they failed you in exams too! They were our teachers too of course.-

    3) The little cookie: the body? and the blood? Sorry, for me that would me canibalism. I've always thought the eucarist was symbolic or should be anway.

    4) The Pope:his infallability, his backwardness. Just generally out of touch. JPII or the gut Ratzinger now. All the same.

    5) Purgatory. Sorry. Just doesn't seem to wrok with me. YOu either did good or did bad. Black or white I think. Jury's still out for me on that. It were when I read about the purgatory thing as a medieaval invention I thought...come on.

    6) The contradictions. The Old Testament says one things, the New Test. says another, yet there's NO contradiction in it with these catolics, I mean huh?

Anyway, those were some of the thinsg - and when my cousin sent me the link and told me I'd be interested in Landover, PLUS it's a good place to practise my English I thought OK!

So, can anyone say to me about the Baptist doctrine being better or more in unison with God. Thanks.

I'm genuinely looking for instruction here, so I'll thank anyone for their inputs.

It is my understanding that there are absolutely no contradictions anywhere in the Bible. Really, you just have to use simple logic to figure this out: Every single word of the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and every single part of the Bible is 110% true.

Therefore, if you think you've found any instance of the Bible contradicting itself, the problem surely lies in the fact that you are Biblically illiterate. Also, if you're using something other than the King James Version, that would only exacerbate the problem.

I have a cousin - let's just call him Vinny.

Anyway, he had a girl friend that looks very much like you. Could it be?

Not much you can do about that. There are many catholics who take their faith very seriously, however. I don't know if you have heard about the SSPX.

        2) The 'recruitment drive' for first communions. When I was at school the nuns just told us we had to. Not 'would you like to' make your first com., no you had to or else they failed you in exams too! They were our teachers too of course.-
Just like the pharisees, catholics see salvation as a process coming from doing good deeds and by following the tradition. So the sacraments are sort of mandatory. I am glad that you see that is wrong. Salvation comes only through belief in Jesus and his resurrection.

        4) The Pope:his infallability, his backwardness. Just generally out of touch. JPII or the gut Ratzinger now. All the same.
In catholicism the Bible doesn't have the last word. The pope is the final authority. Yes, that is wrong. That is why many Christians believe the Pope is the antichrist. The pope is only human, not a substitute for Jesus.

        5) Purgatory. Sorry. Just doesn't seem to wrok with me. YOu either did good or did bad. Black or white I think. Jury's still out for me on that. It were when I read about the purgatory thing as a medieaval invention I thought...come on.
Correct. The purgatory is unbiblical and was created by the catholic church as a way of making more money. You either go to Heaven or Hell. Nothing inbetween.

So, can anyone say to me about the Baptist doctrine being better or more in unison with God. Thanks.
If we are true followers of Jesus we are to love each other and preach the gospel.

John 15:17 "These things I command you, that ye love one another."
Romans 13:10 "Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law."
Matthew 28:18-20 "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen."
Matt 5:17-20 "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven:..."

I like those Scripture quotes. Thank you. That's very sweet and helpful of you. I like the positive angle you've put on that.

Are you denying that you are the girlfriend of my cousin, Vinny?

Well, yes...I've never gone out with anyone called Vinny. Who's your cousin Vinny and why are you asking me this?
I've never been to Iowa either.

Never mind. You look like a papist and have cousins that are familiar with posi-traction read ends.

Since I can't see your read-end, I guess it's hopeless (this is not to say your rear-end is hopeless - and maybe it is - I just can't see it).

And what's this Vinny business? I'm getting dizzy.

While I can see the resemblance between this Marisa and the other one, I do not think they are the same person. Your cousin's girlfriend Marisa is much prettier.

Whatever. You're probably right, a lot of girls are prettier than me. My twin sister is, at least I think so anyway. And I'm not too vain anyway. I'm comfortable with how I look.
Looks don't really matter unless they make you really want to look away or feel sick though.

                          It's what's inside that's important, yeah?

                          Cool.

                          Have a good one, Marisa.

Thanks. But like I said. I don't see that as important. It's inside what counts I think. I like this verse. I think it shows what I mean.
