Jesus is God and He is very clear just how much He loves those who seek Him, subject to your foreordained candidacy for Salvation:
Romans 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
    KJV

and in Jesus we united with God just as Jesus was known - He created the universe - before He came to the world as a baby to redeem us. That is not what the pope teaches, obviously:
    I PETER 1
    18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
    KJV

and it is particularly encouraging to see you looking for answers. Just remember not to question Him. The Bible explains how to love Him back.

@Jedediah: I do not go to church anymore as my parents refuse to take me. My favorite bible verse is Psalms 23, and I came to know Jesus when he saved my soul at baptism.

I just got so wrapped up in the way my surroundings acted, I conformed, but like I said, I fear it is too late. I appreciate your words FriendlyAtheist, Redeemed Papist, and Felicity, I just needed to talk to some people about this, those who have far more knowledge then I do on the subject
    No you don't.

The world is full of false prophets who will tell you that the Bible means this or that when it says this it isn't to be taken literally...

What they are doing is trying to get you to think like them by stating their own opinions and tricking you that God agrees with them therefore they are right. What I'm saying to you is that you should read the Bible yourself and see just how worthy of unquestioning worship God really is. Once the flawless and unambiguous word of our Lord is before you undiluted and you've taken it all in I'm confident it will open your eyes.

For me, realising that church dogma was a load of self-contradictory nonsense with no basis in fact (that it was just the accumulated opinions of generations of people deluded enough to think they were in direct mental contact with God) was an eye opener. Comparing it with the actual evidence available to all showed it just couldn't hold water. It was so obviously false it wasn't worth wasting another thought on. Even the church itself was backtracking on issues like Limbo and Purgatory.

All you need to do is to read the Bible. Actually read it and you will see for yourself why Catholics are very much mistaken about God. You'll see just what the Christian God really is and how amazing He is. Soon you will believe in Him as much as we do. Everyone should read the word of God with their minds wide open and see what it really says, not what some cherry picking priest with an agenda to get you to come and fill his collection plate for the overhead of talking to you for a bit and giving you cheap wine and a bit of wafer tells you that it says. Yes, it all suddenly sounds like a scam, no?

Here at Landover we guarantee Salvation from fear of going to Hell if you read the Bible without us having to interpret one bit for you . We're confident you will be saved if all you do is just read it and marvel at stories of giants and talking donkeys and aborted human sacrifice and burning your beloved daughter in a fire because it's God's will. Didn't know all that was in the Bible? Are you in for a treat!

As for our new friend who is reluctant to tell us what sort of church he attends, or his favorite Bible verse .. . there is no need to be shy, even though a raging atheist is trying to distract us from your need of spiritual sustenance with his rambling foolishness.

You abandoned the Catholic death-cookie cult, that's a great start!

    Hello again Rev!

There are many factors that contribute to life span. I'll name a few:

Availability of food: The more food you have, the less likely you are to die from malnutrition related causes.

    Availability of water: See above.

Healthcare: The better your healthcare, the longer you'll live.

Vaccines and eradication of smallpox etc. : Preventing infections from diseases will allow people to not get killed off by said infections.

Hoped that cleared up any confusion . Feel free to send a private message if you'd like to continue to discuss the topic as this thread probably isn't the best place for it.

    Kind regards,

    FriendlyAtheist.

My advice: There's nothing wrong with being scientific. Science and religion can live together in peace. Science is basically a fancy word for "trained and organised common sense". 5+5=10 is science, though very basic science. Without science, we'd all be living to 35 or 40 max like during the 1600s.
Why not go do a little homework so you can learn that the average lifespan increase is largely due to a decrease in infant mortality, not adults living longer?

We would be glad to help you grow strong in faith, friend. But first, please tell us what church you go to, what your favorite Bible verse is, and how you came to find Jesus.
