  • Happy to be here

    Hello,

My name is Jim Emery. I have been a wayward soul for quite some time now. With my recent retirement I have had a lot of time on my hands and for the first time in my life I have really started reading my bible. I am not through it all yet but I have quite a lot of questions. Ill start reading up on some of the past threads for now but I'm sure I'll have to pick a few brains here from time to time.

Right now I do not attend a church. I am from a very small, rural town, and all the churches around me are full of what I like to call, "Pick and choose Christians."

    I don't think it is fair for me to pick a favorite verse yet since I am yet to read the entire scripture but this is one that keeps coming to me;

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

    – 2 Chronicles 7:14

    Thanks,
    J. Emerey Jr.

God Bless and welcome to God's favorite forum. I must say you look pretty old for a guy born in 1966. When did you retire?

If you'd like to find out more about Landover Baptist Church, please read THIS thread created especially for new posters.

        Pastor Ezekiel,

I have lived a hard life. Living in the ignorance of sin is attractive to a young man, however it takes its toll on the body. I have many regrets in my life and a lot too atone for.

As far as my retirement; it was a rather abrupt event in my life that happened nearly 6 months ago.

I also have a question pastor. It says new members can't post new threads. Who can I email with scripture questions if I can't find the answer here on older posts?

How the Nicene Creed and partialism seem to oppose each other with respect to the holy trinity.

I appreciate the help but I want to search the forums before I waste your time with my lack of understanding.

I am sorry, I was not aware that this was a strictly catholic belief. Looks like I'll have to hit the scripture some more.

There are other denominations that use it (Anglicans, Eastern Orthodox, etc.), or the Apostles Creed, but all of the guidance I need is in the KJV Bible. When people try to add to it is when things go wrong.

I think I understand a little better. It sounds like I am over thinking things...

I guess my one question I really have is how can I properly worship when there are no proper houses of worship anywhere near me?

You don't need to go to a stupid cathedral to praise Jesus. You can do that anywhere. Being part of a church is a gift that allows you to have fellowship with other men who believe like you do. If life is like your rock-concert, then your church should be like going back stage. That's where you get to meet the real fans.
Things are going to get worse before they get better.

Matthew 6:5-6 "5And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. 6But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly."

Over thinking is one of the most common mistakes that non True Christians makes. But you having realized this is a step in the right direction. DON’T over think; as a matter of fact, DON’T think at all. God has already written it all down for you. The only thing you have to do is read and accept; it’s really very simple. The only thing thinking might cause, is distancing you from God, and you don’t want that to happen.
                          Stop whining
(1 Thessalonians 5:18) - In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
(1 Corinthians 10:10) - Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer
(Psalm 106:25) - But murmured in their tents, And hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD
(Ephesians 4:29) - Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers
