This is the kind of discussion that I would like to engage in here.
Given that, I have to say that I respectfully disagree with many of the things presented in these forums.
I read the link that you provided to the Methodist paper -- I have a couple things to say. First, United Methodist is a Christian denomination, as is Baptist. If it is an issue to call people who attend United Methodist churches United Methodists, and the United Methodist Church would be a false church because of this -- then the same logic would have to apply to Baptists.
But since both the United Methodist Church and the various Baptist churches are Christian denominations, then the members can be called by both their denominational name and the general name "Christian."
There is more that could be said regarding that link -- but I don't think those things are as important as the following two passages from the Bible.
Secondly, Paul himself said this about the gospel:
1 Corinthians 15:1-8
15 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.
3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also.
And also this:
Romans 10:8-13
8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, 9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; 13 for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Romans 10 does not say "whoever belongs to _____ church or denomination will be saved." It says ALL who call on the name of the Lord will be saved.

, dear! Tell us what church you go to, what your favorite Bible verse is, and the kind of sinful wasteland that was your life before you sought Redemption!
