I'm not going to tell you people what is true and what is not, since my fellow Dutchman Jasper already did this perfectly.
What I do want to say is that these false accusations in the first post are probably based upon a story “from a friend his son who knew this girl, who’s cousin had a friend in Holland”. It therefore has the reliability of your average crystal-meth-junky.

But besides all the crap being told here, I think you Americans, owe us some respect. Maybe you forgot, but your country was founded, not by Americans, but by other European countries, and Holland was one of them. I think you owe more to our country than you know.
Let’s take for example New York City, if it was not for Holland, this city would have never existed! NYC was started by the Dutch as fur trading settlement.
Furthermore, when drafting the constitution of the US, the Dutch constitution was used as an example, and therefore up to this date, Dutch examples and Dutch influences can still be found in the US constitution. Holland used to be so important for your constitution, that up to 1778 the constitution was translated in Dutch.
And than there were numerous other influences of the Dutch in the US:
- The Holland trading company was responsible for constructing the Erie Canal (first canal in to Canada).
- Countless number of English words, such as cookie, spook, sleigh, waffle, etc.
- The Dutch founded a lot of cities, churches, etc.
- Your ancestors might even be Dutch, especially if you come from Michigan, Iowa, or Wisconsin.

Well I could go on like this for days, but my point is you might want to reconsider your thoughts regarding the Dutch, since you owe more to them than you might know. And you may look really dumb, when your ancestors are Dutch.
