    Pie season!

It's finally pie season again! I can't wait to make my Paradise Pumpkin Pie for everyone. I thought I would share the recipe with y'all to spread the love.

    Ingredients

    • 1 (9 inch) pie shell
    • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
    • 1/4 cup white sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 egg, beaten
    • 1 1/4 cups pumpkin puree
    • 1 cup evaporated milk
    • 2 eggs, beaten
    • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
    • 1/4 cup white sugar
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt
    • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
    • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
    • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
    • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
    2. To Make Cheesecake Layer: In a medium mixing bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Beat in 1/4 cup sugar, then add vanilla extract and 1 egg. Beat mixture until light and smooth. Chill mixture for 30 minutes, then spread into pastry shell.
    3. To Make Pumpkin Layer: In a large bowl, combine pumpkin puree, evaporated milk, 2 eggs, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup white sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
    4. Pour pumpkin mixture over cream cheese layer. Cover edges of crust with aluminum foil.
    5. Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil from edges and bake an additional 25 minutes.
    6. To Make Pecan Streusel Layer: While pie is in oven, combine flour and 2 tablespoons brown sugar in a small bowl. Mix well, then add softened butter or margarine and stir until ingredients are combined. Mix in pecans.
    7. After pie has been in oven for 50 minutes, remove and sprinkle pecan streusel evenly over top. Bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

    Happy Harvest everyone!

Why are pumpkins the devil's fruit sir?

Is it okay if you get them already pureed in cans so you don't actually have to deal with a whole pumpkin? Can cooking them and putting them in a pie render them harmless, like apples in pie?

That makes me sad, this pie is my daddy and uncle's favorite

Annie , Satan worshipers carve them to celebrate Satan's holiday, Halloween. The Pastors at Landover have banned them for that reason. I am sure that Jesus gave direction on the matter. A PM to Pastor Ezekiel might clear it up for you, you can look at post #67 in the link that I provided. God Bless, Annie, YIC James Dewitt

For once, Jo Freddie has spoken the truth, albeit in an obnoxious pirate accent. Landover Baptists having pie during only one season is akin to Pastafarians only having pasta during one season, even though it pains me to draw such an analogy.

Thank you for clarifying Mr. Jenkins, I wasn't sure what the pirate said...

That's wonderful that the Landover Baptists have pie all year! We usually just have it in the fall and winter where I live. I'm not sure why... probably just tradition.

                  Re: Pie season!

Annie, you are a joy to us, the reason that I told you about pumpkin's is simple, I do not want you to go to hell for a pie.

The Ladies of Landover stick to fruit and berry pies. I know that fruit and berries are seasonal, that is why all of them can and freeze when they are in season. Fresh is best but one has to make sacrifices for the Lord.Phebe sticks with apple, cherry, peach, blueberry and boysenberry on occasion.
It has been a point of contention for sometime on the subject of cream pies.
Cream Pies are Homer food, banana, coconut even chocolate cream pies should be avoided.
And never ever serve a quiche pie to a man, unless you like to be punished. Queers eat quiche!

Not only do I prepare pie all year, but I prepare it around the clock! If you love your True Christian(tm) husband, you must serve him a fresh pie at each and every meal. That includes sending him off to work with a fresh pie as well. In addition to all the fresh pies, make sure there are plenty of leftovers in reserve. You never know when your husband will want to go on a pie bender all of a sudden.

Good advice Miss Cindy Lou. When I am married I will make sure to bake several pies daily... hmmm perhaps I should anyway just to make daddy and my big brothers happy.

Brother, I remember bringing this up somewhere, but I can't remember if it was on that thread.

There is a huge difference between a "jack-o-lantern" pumpkin and a "pie" pumpkin.

The Satanic ones AKA "Field pumpkins" are grown for size and for a thin shell. They make lousy pies. I used one to make a pie for my father years ago and he asked me if I had used lumber. It really tasted like sweetened wood.

The pie pumkins AKA "sugar pumpkins" are too small and too fleshy to carve. They tend to only be 8" in diameter and mostly flesh with a very small seed cavity. They are useless to the satanists. So if you are making a pie I would suggest you avoid canned puree and make sure that you are using the proper pumpkins.

That and Seth would absolutely flip out if he didn't get his pumpkin pies from October to December.

                              Miss Annie,

It is certainly good to know that you are getting to know good pie baking basics now.

That way you will always please your husband as there is nothing they like more than a warm piece of pie after dinner!

I was a little concerned however that your recipe read that it was a pre-made pie crust? That is a no no! I would be more than happy to tutor you, just as I am sure any of the other gals would as to the makings of a perfect home made shortcrust pastry.

Also, not to toot her horn, but Sister B.I.G's home preserves are the BEST I have ever tasted! I don't know what she does... perhaps it is a pinch of love from Jesus in every jar, but gosh darn, they are good!

As to the pumpkin pie, well James will not allow me to make it. I tried to make a Grammar Pie(grammar is a type of very sweet pumpkin) as I used to make them a lot in Australia, but he took one look and walked off to his Man Cave.

So as suggested, the best fillings are stone-fruit or berries, and on dedicated occasions, a sweet potato pie could be acceptable.

                              YIC

                              Sister Phebe.

                              There's Jesus here,
Just see what He offers me....
                              Down here my sins forgiven,
Up there a home in heaven
