Dancer, you are exhibiting naivete again; of course female circumcision is effective.

I did not believe it would be necessary to describe the procedure but you are trying to convince people that this is a frivolous and archaic ritual. That is not the case.

After excision of the clitoris and the labia minora, the labia majora are cut or scraped away to create raw surfaces, which are held in contact until they heal, either by stitching the edges of the wound or by tying the legs together. As the wounds heal, scar tissue joins the labia and covers the urethra and most of the vaginal orifice, leaving an opening that may be as small as a matchstick for the passage of urine and menstrual blood.

Do some research before you spout off, please! 140 million Africans cannot be totally wrong.

Infibulation (the process you described above) is even worse than clitoridectomy. Why would you want to be so cruel ?

Babies born in the U.S. to teenage mothers are at risk for long-term problems in many major areas of life, including school failure, poverty, and physical or mental illness. The teenage mothers themselves are also at risk for these problems.

• Boys born to teenage mothers are 13% more likely to be incarcerated.
• Girls born to teenage mothers are 22% more likely to become teenage mothers.

Other Consequences of Teenage Pregnancy

• Teenage births are associated with lower annual income for the mother, 80% of whom eventually rely on welfare.
• Teenage mothers are more likely to drop out of school and only about one-third obtain a high school diploma.
• Teenage pregnancies are associated with an increased rate of delinquent behaviors in the fathers, including alcohol and substance abuse, lower educational level, and reduced earning potential.
• In the United States, the annual cost of teen pregnancies from lost tax revenues, public assistance, child health care, foster care, and involvement with the criminal justice system is estimated to be about $7 billion.

Teenagers should not become parents - agreed. So let's make sure that we have comprehenc=sive sex education so that they know how not to become mothers.
