Female circumcision as well as male is derogatory for the person and not supported by scripture (or demanded, as in the case of the latter).

The reduced risk of penile cancer (more likely to get struck by lightning then get it) is all that circumcised men gain, whereas they gain things like increased risk of herpes and problems with erosion to the head of the penis.

Although circumcision of the male does make sex much less enjoyable for man and woman, that is good right?

i dunno. its gross when a man still has a 4skin. maybe if they clean down there but i still find it looks funny n dun want 2 touch it so that makes it less enjoyalbe.

According to a statement from the U.N. agencies, between 100 and 140 million women and girls are estimated to have undergone female circumcision, and 3 million girls are estimated to be at risk of undergoing the procedure every year.

It is practiced by Muslims and Christians alike, deeply rooted in the Nile Valley region and parts of sub-Saharan African, and is also performed in Yemen and Oman. Through migration, the practice has spread to Western countries like Britain.

Can 140 million people be so absolutely wrong? I would like to see statistics on unmarried teen pregnancies for these people before jumping to any conclusions. A focus group in Watts might be a good place to begin validation.

And remember what Sherrifacade said. These females do not necessarily have access to soap and water on a daily basis. I guess Dancer will suggest FDS as an alternative. She has a glib response for just about everything.

Strangely enough I have no real opinion here. It's not like the filthy UN is trying disrupt real peoples lives. I can't force myself to care about what happens to Godless ooga boogas in Africa and the anus of the Earth, the Middle East. It isn't like we are going to be rubbing elbows with these loincloth wearing savages after the coming Rapture so in my opinion, who cares if they run egg beaters up in each other?
We do preach against false religions and proper hygiene is important and cutting is a sign of Emo so I suppose it might be a bad thing?

I don't know about where you live , but here, birth certificates do not say "illegitimate." There's a blank for the mother's name and a blank for the father's name. Nowhere on the birth certificate is there a blank for the parents' marital status.

There is a space on every blank birth certificate where the mother's name is wriiten, and a space on every blank birht certificate where the father's name is written.

Dancer, you are exhibiting naivete again; of course female circumcision is effective.

I did not believe it would be necessary to describe the procedure but you are trying to convince people that this is a frivolous and archaic ritual. That is not the case.

After excision of the clitoris and the labia minora, the labia majora are cut or scraped away to create raw surfaces, which are held in contact until they heal, either by stitching the edges of the wound or by tying the legs together. As the wounds heal, scar tissue joins the labia and covers the urethra and most of the vaginal orifice, leaving an opening that may be as small as a matchstick for the passage of urine and menstrual blood.

Do some research before you spout off, please! 140 million Africans cannot be totally wrong.
