And it bugs me that you completely ignored my post which clearly explains that all agnostics are atheists. Listen, I stayed out of this thread to let you explain yourself but you seem to have dreamed up some weird definitions here and I want to encourage you to do some research. Your soul may depend upon it.

Let me ask if you agree with the following definitions taken from dictionary.com:

atheist — n
1. a person who does not believe in God or gods

agnostic — n
1. a person who holds that knowledge of a Supreme Being, ultimate cause, etc, is impossible

be·lieve – v
1. to have confidence in the truth, the existence, or the reliability of something, although without absolute proof that one is right in doing so: Only if one believes in something can one act purposefully.

If you do not agree with these definitions, I humbly submit that your visits here are done since you are altering the American language to make yourself feel better.

Once people start altering reality to fit with their emotional desires and irrational fears, you end up in crazy town with a bunch of people talking nonsense to make each other feel better.

Now, assuming you DO agree with these definitions, (and maybe even took the 60 seconds to look them up yourself), let's reexamine the syllogisms I posted right above your last reply. (The ones you ignored.) Actually, let's focus on the second one since it addresses the core of your confusion.

1) An atheist is one who does not believe in any gods.
2) An agnostic does believe in any gods.
3) ERGO: An agnostic is an atheist.

Now go back to the dictionary (or if you are too lazy or in too much denial, scroll up to the definition I pasted for you) and read the definition of "believe" again. Now...let me ask you one simple question:

Do you currently believe any gods exist? Or, substituting the dictionary definition of believe:

Do you to "have confidence in the existence" of any gods? Since the agnostic position is that they can never know if there are any gods or not, these means that you do NOT have "confidence" in the existence of any gods. So, since you do not believe in any gods, we go back to the definition of an atheist and find that you satisfy it. You are currently "a-" (without) "theistic" (a belief in gods); or "without a belief in gods." End of sentence. Full stop. It doesn't mean that you are not open to the possibility that some evidence might be presented to you sometime in the future that would convince you of the existence of a god, it just means that AT THIS TIME, you don't believe in any gods.

Please point out where I have gotten ANY of this wrong, but please do NOT whine that you don't LIKE being called an atheist. Like I said: as soon as you start trying to change reality to fit your emotional needs, you step into crazy town.

I hope this helps you see the error of your ways and prepare yourself for eternal torment in Hell's lake of fire. Take care!


PS: I just had a thought. Perhaps you are confusing "agnostic" with "weak atheist?" There are strong and weak atheists. Strong atheists assert that not only do they not believe in any gods, but that there is enough evidence to actively believe that there are no gods. (A subtle but important difference.) Weak atheists merely say that they do not believe in any gods, but that you can't ever say that "there are no gods" because, no matter how unlikely they think it to be, there just might be something out there that qualifies as a "god."

Both types of atheists are going to burn in Hell equally because the Bible makes it very clear that God accepts nothing but full, complete, unquestioning belief, but it is nice to come to a full understanding of yourself before meeting the Devil, wouldn't you say?

Well I slept on it and talked with my husband not because someone here told me to but because we talk before bed at night on how the days went etcetra

Yes I decided its not fair for me to be making you look at your beliefs like I was. Yes how would I feel if I had a agnostic page and you were butting in not good. So Ill let go of making you look at your god and JUST do what I came here for which is clearing up all misconceptions people list here having to do with my daughter who YES is a lesbian and YES you think things of but reading the newspapers and seeing with my own eyes tells me are not legally or medically true. If your really a lawyer you know they can argue 2 sides to every argument. I looked on the internet and the 1st definition that comes up even has two definitions and that's just for 1 word:

3. One who is doubtful or noncommittal about something.

And Don't try to trip people up with the technicalities but look at what's in their heart and minds. The same word won't mean the same thing to everyone.

You don't even have to give me a word Atheist OR Agnostic if it makes you happy. Just know I do not say YES or NO. No one can know till they die if there is god or not or even gods plural. You haven't walked in the shoes of a dead person so you cant know. We can't know and that's why I say I Don't Know. Which is AGNOSTIC.

OK. So you believe that it is impossible to know whether there are any gods or not. So... but do you believe in God? You say you refuse to say yes or no but in your heart of hearts, you have a position, even if you won't tell us.

If you DO, then you are crazy because while you admit that it is impossible to know anything about any gods, you still believe in one. Believing in things that you admit you can't know about is a sign of mental illness. If you do NOT believe in God, then you are an atheist by definition.

You conclude:

I think I see your confusion. Agnosticism is about "knowledge" while atheism is about "belief." They are not mutually exclusive.

There are gnostic atheists. (Those who think that knowledge about God IS possible, but don't believe in Him currently, usually because that knowledge is not available to them at this time.)

Then there are AGnostic atheists. (Those who think that knowledge about God is NOT possible, and don't believe in Him.) This is you.

Next you have gnostic theists. (We believe that knowledge of God IS possible and we believe in God.)

Finally you have agnostic theists. (Crazy people who believe that knowledge of God is NOT possible, but somehow believe in Him anyway.)

So, you are an agnostic atheist. You believe that knowledge of God is impossible and you do not believe (at least not currently) in God. Here is a useful diagram:



The people in the shaded areas are going to burn in Hell forever. this is why it is important for you to get into our box ASAP.

Actually, there is ONE God, but I take it you are reviewing all of the false gods that Satan has created in history. Since the beginning of recorded history, which is defined by the invention of writing by the Sumerians around 6,000 years ago, historians have cataloged over 3700 supernatural beings, of which 2870 can be considered deities, 2869 of which are false creations of Satan.

You think we can just feel at each other, even through the internet, and have clear communication about a topic as important as your eternal soul? Give me a break. Man up and face yourself. I am not atheist. I am not telling you your god doesnt exist. I am saying he does not exist for me or my kids because he has never called or shown his face.

I am an atheist and I have been staying out of this for a bit to see where you end up emotionally. B ut I must ask, after all of the research I hope you have done, do you at least now admit that your post above is plain wrong. Being an atheist has nothing to do with telling other people that thier god doesn't exist. It is a simple term. It just means that you currently lack a belief in any god.

Can you take a single step in the direction of facing up to your feelings and admit this much?

Can we at least agree that this is how the term is used by most people in the world? All the dictionaries agree. Wikipedia agrees. Even the Vatican agrees. It is not a topic up for debate among any serious people in the world. Why do you think you are allowed your own personal definition?

Every atheist in the world will agree with this. With one caveat:

You CAN run experiments to test the various claims of God's actions in this physical universe. One small example: prayer. No study has ever shown that intercessory prayer has ANY affect on the outcome of patients. None. Does this mean that God doesn't exist? of course not. But it DOES mean that God does not answer prayers n the way that Jesus promised he would multiple times in the Bible. As these observations mount, one starts seeing that the claims of the Bible are not supported by observation. After a while, one starts to say, "Nothing that the Bible claims end up being true. maybe it is all just a cool story?"

If you're called in that direction, if you have a subjective experience of that kind, then that will be your belief system.

You are wrong. My 1611 King James Bible says so. There is only one God to choose from. The other 9,999,999 so-called gods are not real. They were invented out of thin air.
