  • Why atheists who do "good deeds" are even worse than regular ones

The rules that we follow are for OUR benefit, not for God's. God is self-sufficient and is not in need of us. If we obey or disobey, it neither benefits God nor harms God.

However, God said in the Bible - “This people I have formed for myself; they shall declare my praise.” Isaiah 43:21.

So the purpose of our existence is to worship God. And God has explained to us HOW to worship Him. We worship God by praying and fasting and being charitable and doing the various good deeds. It is the rules/regulations that define for us which deeds are good and which are bad.

But it is important to note, that these actions are only worship if they are done with the intention of worship. Thus, an atheist who fasts and feeds the poor and cares for orphans, etc is not worshipping God by doing so. Rather, he is rebelling against God. Why? It is because he considers himself the authority who determines what is right and what is wrong. But God is the only One with that authority. And the atheist is rebelling against that.

Brother Basher, I gave a sermon on this very subject just a few months ago. Would you believe there were people in my very congregation who thought it was a GOOD thing to help an old lady across the street simply because she needed help?

One even thought that "charity begins at home"! Why no!

Charity, and all good deeds, must be done in service to God, or as you have so succinctly pointed out, they are rebellion, and they are also self-serving.

"Oh, I would have felt guilty if I didn't help."

"Helping others makes ME feel good."

Where are these people concerned about what GOD wants? How GOD feels? No, it's all selfish ME ME ME!

      "Christmas Spirit", indeed!
      Bible boring? Nonsense!

The only Good Deed an athian could ever do would be to Praise Jesus.

Yet that is the one thing he refuses to do.
