Falwell In 'Gravely Serious' Condition

Report: Falwell Found Unconscious, Hospitalized

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- A Liberty University executive said the Rev. Jerry Falwell is in "gravely serious" condition after being found unconscious in his office Tuesday.

Ron Godwin, the executive vice president of the school, told The News & Advance of Lynchburg that Falwell was found unconscious after missing an appointment Tuesday morning. He said Falwell is receiving emergency care.

Godwin said he's not sure what caused the collapse but Falwell "has a history of heart challenges."

Falwell arrived at Lynchburg General Hospital at about noon, The News & Advance reported on its Web site. A hospital spokeswoman said she had "no information to release at this time" on Falwell.

Godwin said he had breakfast with Falwell and he was fine.

Good riddance. For a long time, "Rev." Falwell gave us Christians a bad name. Thanks to him, the unsaved trash think that all Christians are a bunch of lovey-dovey, John-3:16-only, liberal space cadets. Well, I do recall that Pastor Pistle and Brother Larry Lee did point out a solid example of why Rev. Falwell will have alot of explaining to do to Jesus.

But I prefer to remember him as the happy-go-lucky prankster that he was. I have kept a copy of his autobiography (written by the queer Mel White) on top of one of my commodes for years now. Here is one of my favorite anecdotes, a story about Rev. Falwell's dear old dad, which I'm sure you will see for the gem it is:

There were times that Dad's pranks bordered on cruelty. One of his oil-company workers, a one-legged man he nicknamed "Crip" Smith, complained about everything. Dad and Crip's co-workers got tired of the old man's bellyaching and decided to take revenge. One morning Crip called in sick and Dad volunteered to send by lunch to his grateful but suspicious employee. Dad and his chums caught Crip's old black tomcat, killed it, skinned it, and cooked it in the kitchen of one of Dad's little restaurants. They called it squirrel meat and delivered it to Crip on a linen-covered tray. When Crip returned to work the next morning, Dad and his co-conspirators asked him how he liked his meal. They knew he would complain even about a free home-cooked lunch, and when Crip called it "the toughest squirrel meat" he had ever eaten, they were glad to tell him why.

I have always found myself torn about Rev. Falwell. On the one hand, he was the first to point out that at least one of the "Teletubbies" is a limp-wristed homer. On the other hand, I was appalled when I saw his endorsement of some blood-colored wop hooch.
