    It's almost Summertime!!

It seems like Summer starts earlier and earlier every year here in Freehold (but that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with "Global Warming"). Anyway, the summer festivals and events will be starting before you know it. Here's an updated schedule of some of my personal favorites:

Freehold Pork Festival, May 11-20, Freehold County Fairgrounds
The ninth annual Freehold Pork Festival is a celebration of everything pig. Enjoy home-cooked pork recipes from around the county. Shop for pig-inspired arts and crafts—paintings, stuffed animals, wood carvings, quilts, and pillows. And be sure to see the re-match between NewsCenter 38 anchorwoman Jo Ann Stevens and Oinky McOink in the Woman Vs. Pig wrestling match.

Freehold Founders Days, May 17-20, Main St. between Helms and Lewis, Downtown Freehold
The City of Freehold honors its founding with a re-enactment of the Indian "relocation" by the slaves, er, servants of the founders. Learn how the founders made rudimentary trampolines from the skins of Indian children. The teepee torching and “rifle salute” at sundown is a timeless Freehold tradition.

Jigaboo Chase Fun Run, May 16th, Downtown Freehold
Join 950 other Freehold area runners in a 5K “mock” jigaboo chase. This year’s guest jigaboo: movie and television actor Billy Dee Williams.

Taste of Freehold, May 29-June 12, Nathan Bedford Forrest Square, Downtown Freehold
Sample the diverse tastes of Freehold’s many interesting restaurants in bite-sized portions. Among the popular bill of fare: Fried Pancakes from Aunt Polly’s Family Restaurant; Garlic Breadsticks from Olive Garden®; Fried Pork skins from T.J. O’Bennigan’s Family Food Factory™; Potato Ice Cream from R.J. McStuffingham’s Good Time Food Company®; and Bologna and Peanut Butter Sandwiches on Wonder Bread from Freehold Diner.

Minstrel Days, July 27-29, City Hall Lawn, Main St. and Lewis, Downtown Freehold
Not many people know that Freehold originated many of the Jim Crow laws that were adopted throughout the state during the late 1800s. Minstrel Days is a delightful festival that allows Freeholders to re-live those bygone times with minstrel shows, watermelon eating contests, a Dunk the Uppity Jigaboo machine, an historical re-enactment of the Freehold Lynchings of 1937, and period arts and crafts.

White American Heritage Handicrafts and Art Fair, August 17-19, Freehold Convention Center
The 38th Annual White American Heritage Handicrafts and Art Fair presents dozens of folk artists, arts and crafts vendors, musicians, storytellers and hobbyists displaying a wide variety art and handicrafts from White American culture. Enjoy banjo players, baked goods, antiques, NASCAR souvenirs, Klan memorabilia, coon shoots, lynch noose tying contests, a shirtless "pale-off", and marksmanship contests.

True Christian™ Praise Music Jamboree, September 21-23, Stephen Collins Foster Concert Hall, Landover Baptist University
Over 28 different acts will perform as America's greatest True Christian Praise Musicians gather for a weekend of glorious music at Landover Baptist University's Stephen Collins Foster Concert Hall, including The Cooper Family feat. Joyce Cooper, The Christian Crusaders, Rev. Frank Gonzales and The God Squad, The McKeithens, The McDonald Sisters, Ol' Brother Wilfred's Traveling Gospel Singers, The Men's Ministry Choir, and Ratt.

    I'll see you there!! GLORY!!

Yes, the Woman Verses Pig wrestling match does bring back pleasant memories. Nothing more stirring than to a see a good Christian woman getting into a mud pit with a full grown pig to wrestle it down. It takes you back to what our early TRUE Christian pioneers had to do to survive in this land Jesus gifted us with.

Time to reclaim our FREEDOM from the “Mullah in Chief” and his growing activist voter hoards of socialists, communists, anti-Semites, anti-Christians, atheists, radical gays and lesbians, feminists, illegal immigrants, Muslims, anti-Anglo whites and others.

This year my money is on NewsCenter 38's Jo Ann Stevens. I think she learned a lot from her humiliating defeat last year, and she's gained some weight after her last pregnancy.

Ah, but have you seen this year's pig?

You might want to wait for the weigh-in!

            Landover Forever Sousa Civic Band
Saturday and Sunday Weekend Concerts at 2:00 PM - June 2, 2007 through August 19, 2007
Gabriel Park Gazebo, across the street from City Hall, Main St. and Lewis, Downtown Freehold

Bring your picnic basket and join the Landover Forever Sousa Civic Band on the lawn for rousing Sousa marches every weekend afternoon. Under the able baton of conductor Stephen Fermata, the band plays through their complete library of John Philip Sousa repertoire over the course of the summer.

"If you've ever heard a European march, you know why they are all now second rate powers", remarked Maestro Fermata. According to Steve, "Sousa inspires an inner tranquility and manifest patriotism in all of his works, they are stirring, proud, invigorating, exuberant and filled with victory, confidence, and celebration". Indeed, a march must motivate and energize soldiers and galvanize public enthusiasm for the national cause. Sousa had the gift of the Holy Spirit when he composed a march and would "turn my imagination loose among scenes of barbaric splendor. I picture to myself the glitter of guns and swords, the tread of feet to the drum beat, and all that is grand and glorious in military scenes."

This summer the piccolo section of the band is joined by one of our foreign exchange students from Ireland, Shannon Baa. "The Irish have a tradition with their staccato fluttering tongues and tin whistles, and Shannon is doing a great job with the piccolo solo in The Stars and Stripes Forever during rehearsals" according to Director Fermata. Shannon will also help in the after concert cleanup work detail (as part of community service to avoid prosecution for spray painting Nietzsche quotations on the church doors). Everyone please say hello to Shannon and give her a warm welcome.

During the Memorial Day and July 4th celebrations the band will again be joined by soprano Melanie Warbler, tenor Larry Lee, along with the angelic voices of the Landover Baptist Church choir for a patriotic concert. Last year's rendition of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "God Bless America" did not leave a dry eye in the audience.
            Hell's foundations quiver at the shout of praise;
brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise.
            ...and get off my lawn

And we will rock the house for Jesus, I can tell you. This year we're doing a Perry Como medly tribute. A bit racy I know, but we True Christians™ are "with it" and "up to speed" too.

Opening for us is our old favorite Banjo boy.

                Who Will Jesus Damn?
