Now cow belching is the cause of Global Warming!!! Do these scientist really think we are that dumb?!?! Next thing you know they'll be saying that heterosexual procreation is the cause of Global Warming and that if we don't all kill our children and turn to the gay lifestyle the world will melt. This is just the last straw!!! Global Warming is clearly a hoax. Cows have been belching for 6000 or so years and NOW all of a sudden it's going to cause the world to catch on fire? Cows are gonna bring about Armageddon??? Pfft.

Manners aside, getting cows to burp less can help reduce global warming.
Using modern plant-breeding methods to find new diets for cows that make them belch less is a way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, scientists said on Monday.
The key is developing new varieties of food that are easier for cattle to digest and also provide a proper balance of fiber, protein and sugar, said Michael Abberton, a scientist at the UK-based Institute of Grassland and Environmental Research.
This could open up plant-based solutions as alternatives to reducing stock as farmers look for ways to cut methane emissions amid warming climates, he told a briefing on farming and climate change at London's Science Media Centre.
He noted the average dairy cow belches out about 100 to 200 liters of methane each day, making diet changes a key potential factor in reducing this greenhouse gas.
"There is a common misperception about how methane gets into the atmosphere," he said. "It is actually through belching rather than the other end."
Agriculture is responsible for about seven percent of UK greenhouse gas emissions and a large proportion of two of the most potent gases with 37 percent of methane and 67 percent of nitrous oxide.
Greenhouses gases are widely blamed for causing global warming. Scientists say average temperatures will rise by between two and six degrees Celsius by the end of the century, causing droughts, floods and violent storms.
Abberton said introducing easier-to-digest legumes that tend to reduce methane emissions is an example of an approach scientists are beginning to explore. Legumes such as clover and alfalfa are commonly used for animal fodder.
It also requires farmers to balance cows' legume intake with other food and to develop different species of grass that are also more digestible, he added.
"What I'm saying is there are approaches within plant breeding that can lead to reduced emissions," he said.

Of course the Sun is warming up. As a star gets older, it becomes more powerful. In less than a billion years, all of Earth will be uninhabitable. Not due to Global Warming, mind you. Hell, even if we covered Earth in solar panels, it still wouldn't help. The sun will always get hotter and hotter. Hence, more solar flares, solar winds and such are produced. On Earth, we've got out fantastic atmosphere that keeps the warmth in naturally. But it's been proven that we humans thanks to our fantastic new and mighty machina, although producing a great and vast civilization, are also producing a lot of nasty bi-products. You guys ever been near a petrol powered generator? Yeah, those things guzzle up a lot of fuel, and spew out a lot of nasty chemicals into the air (that smell pretty damn bad, I gotta say. X_X). We humans use things like these that are a thousand times bigger than your average sitting-in-the-shed generator. And over the past century, and especially the most recent several decades, we've obtained huge technological advancements. Ooo! More goodies! Huzzah! Wait a minute though... Let's take a quick peek at this chart here...

I truly believe that Global warming, if it exists is caused by so many Sinners burning in Hell and nothing to do with us True Christians™.
There are so many Homers and Unsaved Trash being killed and sent to Hell by Jesus that it stands to reason there would be an increase in Temperature down there. Heat rises so the Earth gets hotter.
It's all in God's plan.

It is 100 F right now at almost 10:00 p.m. in Baghdad. It will be 109 F tomorrow. Unfortunately, regulations written by our contractors prohibit work being done painting, plastering, or any other form of work when the temperature is above 92 F or below 50 F.... which is 82% of the year.

If the weather were a little cooler in Baghdad, we probably would have painted all the schools, hospitals, post offices, and police stations three or four times by now.

Now that is liberalism in action. They deliberately spew CO2 into the atmosphere just to raise the global temperatures to undermine our war effort in Iraq. Disgraceful.

People surprise me with their ignorance! I do agree that as a star gets older it becomes more powerful and there fore emits more heat, which in turn causes the climates of the world to become warmer. But to say that it is doing so at such in incredible rate surprises me. If you think that mans pollution and what we are doing has absolutely no effect on the atmosphere and the coinciding temperatures and climates. Than u really need to get a grip on reality. Please dont try to bring god into this. He does not control what man does nor do I believe he can reverse our ill effects. That too is ignorant!

Idiot? What is with the personal attacks? Personal attacks are unacceptable at Landover!

Atheists and liberals are the ones who cause Global Warming with their CO2 or what ever it is. Beats me were is comes from but they brag about it all the time how much Co2 they put into the air.

I drive a Hummer that gets a godly 12 miles to the gallon. It puts out no Co2 because it is only driven by conservatives.

Walking damages planet more than going by car

Walking does more than driving to cause global warming, a leading environmentalist has calculated.

Food production is now so energy-intensive that more carbon is emitted providing a person with enough calories to walk to the shops than a car would emit over the same distance. The climate could benefit if people avoided exercise, ate less and became couch potatoes. Provided, of course, they remembered to switch off the TV rather than leaving it on standby.

The sums were done by Chris Goodall, campaigning author of How to Live a Low-Carbon Life, based on the greenhouse gases created by intensive beef production. “Driving a typical UK car for 3 miles [4.8km] adds about 0.9 kg [2lb] of CO2 to the atmosphere,” he said, a calculation based on the Government’s official fuel emission figures. “If you walked instead, it would use about 180 calories. You’d need about 100g of beef to replace those calories, resulting in 3.6kg of emissions, or four times as much as driving.

“The troubling fact is that taking a lot of exercise and then eating a bit more food is not good for the global atmosphere. Eating less and driving to save energy would be better.”

Mr Goodall, Green Party parliamentary candidate for Oxford West & Abingdon, is the latest serious thinker to turn popular myths about the environment on their head.

Catching a diesel train is now twice as polluting as travelling by car for an average family, the Rail Safety and Standards Board admitted recently. Paper bags are worse for the environment than plastic because of the extra energy needed to manufacture and transport them, the Government says.

Fresh research published in New Scientistlast month suggested that 1kg of meat cost the Earth 36kg in global warming gases. The figure was based on Japanese methods of industrial beef production but Mr Goodall says that farming techniques are similar throughout the West.

What if, instead of beef, the walker drank a glass of milk? The average person would need to drink 420ml – three quarters of a pint – to recover the calories used in the walk. Modern dairy farming emits the equivalent of 1.2kg of CO2 to produce the milk, still more pollution than the car journey.

Cattle farming is notorious for its perceived damage to the environment, based on what scientists politely call “methane production” from cows. The gas, released during the digestive process, is 21 times more harmful than CO2 . Organic beef is the most damaging because organic cattle emit more methane.

Michael O’Leary, boss of the budget airline Ryanair, has been widely derided after he was reported to have said that global warming could be solved by massacring the world’s cattle. “The way he is running around telling people they should shoot cows,” Lawrence Hunt, head of Silverjet, another budget airline, told the Commons Environmental Audit Committee. “I do not think you can really have debates with somebody with that mentality.”

But according to Mr Goodall, Mr O’Leary may have a point. “Food is more important [to Britain’s greenhouse emissions] than aircraft but there is no publicity,” he said. “Associated British Foods isn’t being questioned by MPs about energy.

“We need to become accustomed to the idea that our food production systems are equally damaging. As the man from Ryanair says, cows generate more emissions than aircraft. Unfortunately, perhaps, he is right. Of course, this doesn’t mean we should always choose to use air or car travel instead of walking. It means we need urgently to work out how to reduce the greenhouse gas intensity of our foodstuffs.”

Simply cutting out beef, or even meat, however, would be too modest a change. The food industry is estimated to be responsible for a sixth of an individual’s carbon emissions, and Britain may be the worst culprit.

“This is not just about flying your beans from Kenya in the winter,” Mr Goodall said. “The whole system is stuffed with energy and nitrous oxide emissions. The UK is probably the worst country in the world for this.

“We have industrialised our food production. We use an enormous amount of processed food, like ready meals, compared to most countries. Three quarters of supermarkets’ energy is to refrigerate and freeze food prepared elsewhere.

A chilled ready meal is a perfect example of where the energy is wasted. You make the meal, then use an enormous amount of energy to chill it and keep it chilled through warehousing and storage.”

The ideal diet would consist of cereals and pulses. “This is a route which virtually nobody, apart from a vegan, is going to follow,” Mr Goodall said. But there are other ways to reduce the carbon footprint. “Don’t buy anything from the supermarket,” Mr Goodall said, “or anything that’s travelled too far.”

"Pulse" crops are peas, beans lentils, chickpeas, fababeans, and soybeans, mostly of the legume family. "Pulse" derives from the Latin "puls" (meaning porridge).

I find it tiresome to eat all these grains, legumes and vegetables. In an advanced Christian nation we have division of labor, that means we outsource these tasks and let the animals eat them - then we eat the animals. Eating vegan causes other problems as well. Just look at what happens to the dotheads when they eat this stuff. They start having hallucinations and inventing all kinds of strange gods with hundreds of arms. There is nothing more healthy than a Godly American steak grilled over hot mesquite.
