Satanists want statue beside Ten Commandments monument at Oklahoma Legislature

OKLAHOMA CITY -- In their zeal to tout their faith in the public square, conservatives in Oklahoma may have unwittingly opened the door to a wide range of religious groups, including satanists who are seeking to put their own statue next to a Ten Commandments monument on the Statehouse steps.

The Republican-controlled Legislature in this state known as the buckle of the Bible Belt authorized the privately funded Ten Commandments monument in 2009, and it was placed on the Capitol grounds last year despite criticism from legal experts who questioned its constitutionality. The Oklahoma chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union has filed a lawsuit seeking its removal.

But the New York-based Satanic Temple saw an opportunity. It notified the state's Capitol Preservation Commission that it wants to donate a monument and plans to submit one of several possible designs this month, said Lucien Greaves, a spokesman for the temple.

"We believe that all monuments should be in good taste and consistent with community standards," Greaves wrote in letter to state officials. "Our proposed monument, as an homage to the historic/literary Satan, will certainly abide by these guidelines."

Greaves said one potential design involves a pentagram, a satanic symbol, while another is meant to be an interactive display for children. He said he expects the monument, if approved by Oklahoma officials, would cost about $20,000.

Rep. Bobby Cleveland, who plans to introduce a one such bill next year, said many Christians feel they are under attack as a result of political correctness. He dismissed the notion of Satanists erecting a monument at the Capitol.

"I think these Satanists are a different group," Cleveland, R-Slaughterville, said. "You put them under the nut category."

Bobby Cleveland speaks the truth! Satanists ARE "another group" They are certainly not Americans. When there is so obviously only one True God - The One Who actually said that all other gods were false - how can it be that these nuts can want even to think about a god that isn't God?

I can confirm to you now that there are no other gods, they are all false gods. I don't have faith in any of them but it is obvious that God is the one to worship. The Bible says so.

I think God is giving Oklahoma a chance here to redeem itself after the mockery of The Holy Bible in OKC. I would recommend that the citizens of OK tread cautiously here and show God they are with Him, not against Him.

Surley. the Lord God must hate Oklahoma.

In years past, it was a godly place. It is the home of my own alma mater, ORU. It was once the home of over 500,000 Christian Churches, almost all Baptist.

Now, the residents are mostly intoxicated Indians who have been drinking whiskey and trashy, methamphetamine addicted oil people, many of whom worship Satan, as we see evidenced in this article.

It is quite obvious to even the casual observer that this explains the rash of tornadoes Oklahoma has suffered in the last 20 years or so. The Lord must be wroth with these Oklahomans for their backsliding ways.

I wish He'd just go on and destroy their country all together. That would prevent their hooligans from vandalizing Dallas every time their football team goes there for a beating.

Oklahoma, the state of terrorist bombings and satanism, should be annexed by God's favourite state Texas before its too late for them.

Some of those Indians up there are there because we drove them out of Texas; in particular, the Commanches. If we annex the place, we will have the same problem again that we had in the 1800's, namely a tribe of wild savages riding around on stolen horses robbing, pillaging, killing White men and Mexicans and stealing Negroes. They probably have cars by now and worse, they are likely better armed than the last time, too.

Perhaps they could be driven into Arkansas. It is likely that no one in those parts would notice. That might be best.

There are 2.63 million square kilometers of government lands in the US, and 313.9 million Americans, each of them with their own unique belief system. If we memorialize them all, that's one monument every six meters, about. But Yellowstone, a relatively sparse patch of government property, is only 15% grassland, while the rest is covered in trees and water. So not every belief system can be represented in the public sector. Since 78% of Americans claim to be Christians, Jesus gets to be memorialized first. Since more than 12% (100-78%) of government land is already devoted to productive activity, there is certainly no room for other religions to be represented. So by simple mathematics I have proven that the only way to uphold the Constitution is to fill all available public spaces with memorials to Christ.
