Hello, I'm new to this forum. I am a devout Christian minister and former Pastor, I live in the booming metropolis of Dallas, Georgia. Just scanning across the forums here, it seems that most of you feel that the orginal KJV of the Bible is the only correct translation of the Bible. Maybe that's not the consensus here, but it just sort of seemed that way. I'm certainly not attacking anyone here, just curious....I have read the KJV and many other versions of the Bible, even much of the New Testament in it's original Greek language. Just wondering why many of you feel that the KJV is the only true/accurate version/translation of the Bible? Some of the translations I have read I don't care for, but others seem to be pretty accurate translations as far as being compared to the original Greek text. Just wondering....

Re: King James Version of the Bible?
KJV1611 is help by our church to be the only true version of God's Message to His creation friend.
Let me respond with a question of my own to explain why we feel this way; as Christian we can assume you feel God is active in this world and is all powerful, all knowing and is perfect? Now how can you accept there is multiple acceptable versions of His Perfect Word or the possibility of mistranslation. That implies God is not perfect or God does not care.

Re: King James Version of the Bible?
I do believe that God is all mighty and omnipotent and never makes mistakes...But King James had the Bible translated from Greek/Hebrew/Aramaic into the language that his people spoke, which was Old English...right? If they would have spoke German, wouldn't he have translated it into German? What then, is the problem with translating the Bible from Old English (What the people of King James' day was speaking) into Modern English, which is what we speak today? If it can be done correctly from the ancient Greek/Hebrew text, why would there be a problem with that? Again, I'm not trying to start an argument or anything, just curious as to why you feel that way.

Re: King James Version of the Bible?
Please take a look at my sermon on the subject HERE.
Also, please make a thread of your own in the "Introductions" section of the forum, so that we can properly greet you. Tell us about yourself, your church, and how you came to find Jesus.

Here is a partial list from just a few scripture verses:

Re: King James Version of the Bible?
Don't you think it logically follows that God meant it to be translated that way with this archaic English? After all how could King James or the translation committee defy the will of God. This isn't a question of personal choice but of God explaining to humanity what He expects from us. Since logically we can't chose to follow His rules if we don't know them, then He must make those rules available.Originally posted by DarinC View PostI do believe that God is all mighty and omnipotent and never makes mistakes...But King James had the Bible translated from Greek/Hebrew/Aramaic into the language that his people spoke, which was Old English...right? Please don't think I am being defensive hear friend but I personally I find it is easier to explain this threw these questions. The only reasonable answer is God has to have wanted the KJV1611 since it was the earliest and the most widely read version.
And I would think God's Word is far above the whims of fashion and language friend.

Re: King James Version of the Bible?
Pastor Ezekiel...nice to meet you, you seem a pretty informed/well studied fellow. I will go make an "introductory" post..I'm sorry, I didn't know that was the rule. Anyway, as I said earlier, I have read most all of the popular translations (besides the KJV) and tried to do alot of comparison/contrast with the orginal Greek/Hebrew text. I can't tell you how many times over the years people have come to me (I guess they think a pastor should know everything there is to know about this sort of thing...lol) and ask me about different versions of the Bible, which is what prompted me to read the other versions. First of all, there are some versions that I don't like and I think they mistranslate and omit or add too the Word. The NIV is one such version. I've found a few bad mistakes in this version. For instance...when Jesus is in the temple when he is young and Mary comes back to find him there, Jesus says to her...KJV "Did you not know I would be about my Father's business". The NIV says, "Did you not know I would be in my father's house". Well, that changes the whole meaning of the passage. Just because you are in the "house" doesn't mean you are about the Father's business...right? Well, the actual Greek word Christ said actually means to "to be about the work of..." So the KJV got it right. Also, when Paul is talking to the Thessalonians ch 4 v 13 - 18 about the coming of the Lord, in v 14 the NIV says..."We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him." The KJV says..."For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him." Now the NIV leaves out "For if"....whoa! To say "For if" makes it a condition right? If he would have just said "We believe" he is just stating that is what he believes and that may be right or wrong. The actual Greek text says..."El yap" which translates "For if"....so the KJV gets it right again. On the other hand, and I may get stoned for saying this on here by some, you probably know that there a couple of places that the KJV doesn't get it exactly "right". For instance....John ch 5, the man healed by the pool of Bethesda...v 4 in the KJV about the Angel troubling the water...this verse is found nowhere in the orginal Greek manuscripts. Now that doesn't mean there wasn't some sort of divine healing that took place in the pool, because that's what the scripture implies...and in fact it didn't really matter, because Jesus healed the guy anyway. The NIV and a few other versions omit this verse...Just saying....Anyway, don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the KJV...I preach out of it to this day and I love it. But I just don't agree that all other versions are incorrect or not inspired by God. I have read some that I thought were good and accurate translations.

Re: King James Version of the Bible?
I think that God wanted King James to translate it into what his people of that time spoke...which was Old English. Can God not find some other people just as anointed and filled with His Spirit and Wisdom to translate it into Portugese for people who live in Portugal? Likewise, can God not find people just as anointed and wise to translate it into our language of today...which is our version of English?Originally posted by Bobby-Joe View PostDon't you think it logically follows that God meant it to be translated that way with this archaic English? God's Holy Scripture presented in God's favorite language, PRAISE GOD !!
And recall, white settlers carried these King James Bibles across the American continent in their crusade to win this land from the heathen pagans, to His glory.
{I have to take a break here, I am becoming overcome with emotion at the majesty of God's plan}Jud 1:15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are unGodly among them of all their unGodly deeds which they have unGodly committed, and of all their hard [speeches] which unGodly sinners have spoken against him.

"God's favorite language"...? I've always thought perhaps His favorite "human" language was Hebrew. After all, it's what Abraham, Isaac, Moses, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, King David, Samuel, Joshua, Gideon, Elisha, and Jesus all spoke in....well actually Jesus spoke Greek and Hebrew...but anyway...don't get me wrong brother, I'm not arguing with you, but read my post above to the other brother about Portugese....you see my point right?Originally posted by Oakland "Reb" Griner View PostGod's Holy Scripture presented in God's favorite language, PRAISE GOD !!

Please compare the blessings God has granted the Portuguese to those granted to English speaking Americans.
Just the fact this forum is in English, not Portuguese, is significant, no?
Manifest blessings for manifest destiny! The highest exaltation of the Lord's work has been wrought by English speaking (and thinking!) peoples!

The evidence is overwhelming that He spoke Aramaic. He may have had some understanding of Hebrew and Greek, but the evidence for that is sketchy at best.
Also, please think about this; God wants us to be richly rewarded for our faith.
The United States is the single most powerful and wealthy nation in the world. I believe that America is God's favorite country, and that American is His favorite language.2 Samuel 22:21
The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.
2 Chronicles 15:7
Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.
Psalm 31:23
O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.

Darin, the KJV is not written in Old English. Old English is like Beowulf. Middle English is Chaucer's era. It is through the Power of Jesus only the converted mind is able to understand what is going on in the world; what the Communists are really up to; what Satan's intentions are. Re: King James Version of the Bible?
Huh?...."compare the blessings God has granted the Portuguese to those granted to English speaking Americans." If someone in Portuguese or anywhere else in the world excepts Christ as their Savior, Heaven is going to be just as sweet for them as will for me. Is someone in Portugal or New Zealand, or the jungles of Africa or the frozen tundras of the Artic circle not entitled to hear and learn from the Word of God and have access to the Salvation and blessings of Jesus Christ?Originally posted by Oakland "Reb" Griner View Post{I am in control of my emotions now}

England is largely godless to this day, as you probably know.
