I was watching television the other day, and I saw a commercial for "Is it Low T?". Which is apparently an advertisement for some kind of testosterone drug.
According to their website, signs and symptoms of Low Testosterone are: Fatigue or loss of energy; low sex drive; sexual dysfunction; depressed mood; decreased sense of well-being; increased body fat; loss of muscle mass; and decreased bone strength.
Well, when I saw the commercial, I immediately thought of 1 Corinthians. Specifically, 1 Corinthians 7:7.
1 Corinthians 7:7 For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
In that verse, Paul is recommending that all men be celibate, so that they could spend all their time worshiping the LORD.
9 But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
Having sex in a marriage is a good thing. If a man has a sex drive, he should put it to use with his wife. If he does it outside a marriage, as you see in verse 9, he'll burn.
The first epistle to the Corinthians was written by Paul of Tarsus to the christians of Corinth, Greece. Remember, Paul was the guy who used to be Saul, who was on the Road to Damascus, where he had a vision of Jesus, at which point he lost his ability to see.
In verse 7, you see, Paul had low sex drive, a prime example of low testosterone.
Let's see if Paul had any other examples of "low t".
1 Corinthians 15:19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.
"We are, of all men, most miserable". That sure sounds like another symptom, depressed mood.
1 Corinthians 16:18 For they have refreshed my spirit and yours: therefore acknowledge ye them that are such.
Again, you see that he needed his spirit refreshed, so he possibly also suffered from depression.
Another symptom is decreased sense of well-being. Did Paul have this (in first Corinthians)?
1 Corinthians 2:3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.
Weakness, fear, and much trembling, that sounds a lot like a decreased sense of well-being.
1 Corinthians 9: 19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
He made himself a servant to all, decreased self-worth.
Any more symptoms?
1 Corinthians 9: 22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
"Became I as weak"; loss of muscle mass?
So, friends, we see that Paul probably was blessed with low testosterone. He was weak, had no sex drive, had a depressed mood, and a decreased sense of well-being.
I bet when he had the vision on the road to Damascus, that he not only lost his eyesight, but also lost his testes ability to produce testosterone. He was healed by Ananias who laid his hands on him to restore his sight. I wonder if Ananias would have placed his hands on Paul's Balls if he might have had some more vigor in his other endeavors.
