Why would God bother to create anything?

Unsaved trash often pose the above question in a desperate attempt to disprove our holy faith. If they ever used their Bibles for anything other than steadying a wobbly table, they'd know that God has told us the answer.

All things are created for God's pleasure:

Rev. 4:11: Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

God's elect were also created for His glory:

Isaiah 43:7: [Even] every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.

But what about those people who won't be our neighbors in Heaven? Why would God create humanity when He had to foreknow that the overwhelming majority would be tormented eternally in the lake of fire? God created them not only for His pleasure generally, but more specifically to glorify Himself to His elect:

Romans 9:22-24: [What] if God, willing to shew [his] wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?
This church is dedicated to preaching True Christianity™ and the King James Bible exactly as they are, with no alterations to make them more politically correct for modern liberals. If you think that we've misquoted or twisted Scripture or quoted any verse out of context, please explain in detail how we've done so. Otherwise, if what you read on this site offends you, then you're offended by Almighty God and His Word, not by us.

I always thought God created us so we could worship Him.

“This people I have formed for myself; they shall declare my praise.” Isaiah 43:21.

      Godly preaching, Pastor!

The only thing I can add: God does not only punish people in Hell for His Glory, I think. In fact, I think He does that for His Pleasure as well, as He delights in destroying and punishing sinners when they do not follow His Commandments:

      Deuteronomy 28:62-63:

And ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the stars of heaven for multitude; because thou wouldest not obey the voice of the LORD thy God.
And it shall come to pass, that as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you; so the LORD will rejoice over you to destroy you, and to bring you to nought; and ye shall be plucked from off the land whither thou goest to possess it.
      Sweet Lord Jesus,
I want to pray for those who persecute me, my Lord.
Please, treat their children as you treated those of Egypt, when they upset you! (Psalm 135:8-9)
Dash their little children against the stones for their fathers iniquity! (Psalm 137:8-9)
Hit them on the cheek, and smash out their teeth! (Psalm 3:7)
Make their death and descent into Hell swift and terrible! (Psalm 55:15)
Scatter their broken bodies over the streets of their evil cities, like Benghazi, Amsterdam, Tokyo and Mecca! (Psalm 110:6)
      Praised be Your Glorious Name™.

      Amen.

        Better question.

Why wouldn't he want to create something?

He wanted to share his glory, so others might know his love.

              I've never understood this question.

Romans 9:21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?

I care about my dogs, I love my dogs, but there's a lot that I do that I'm sure they don't understand. I can no more know Gods thoughts, than my dogs could know mine.

                Because he was drunk

                The Holy Noodle
The Fifth Day: The Big Bang

The fifth day was going to be huge, so the FSM rose early. Then He said, “Let the waters abound, let the skies fill with birds, let the earth bring forth creatures, each according to its kind. Then let them canoodle and be fruitful.” And he saw that it was good, and He was feeling pretty proud of himself, so He hit the Beer Volcano hard that afternoon. Later that evening He rolled out of bed and landed hard on the firmament, and this, fair reader, was the true Big Bang. He had a funny feeling and realized in His drunken stupor that he had not only built a factory in Heaven that turned out scantily clad women in transparent high heels, but He’s also created a midget on earth, whom He called Man. And He said, “Wow. Even I might have overreached my Noodly Appendage on this one,” and not even sure what day it was anymore, he decided to take an extended break from the whole creation gig, and He gave a quick blessing and declared, “From here on out, every Friday is a holiday.”

Re: Why would God bother to create anything?

Well initially he created everything because there was no one else to do so.

                  Genesis 1

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Following that tho it was because no one else was capable of doing so with such perfection.

                  Genesis 1:31
31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.

                  Praise be to God.
                  2 Chronicles 7:14
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land Australia.
