Single-horned 'Unicorn' deer found in Italy

ROME (AP) — A deer with a single horn in the center of its head — much like the fabled, mythical unicorn — has been spotted in a nature preserve in Italy, park officials said Wednesday.

"This is fantasy becoming reality," Gilberto Tozzi, director of the Center of Natural Sciences in Prato, told The Associated Press. "The unicorn has always been a mythological animal."

The 1-year-old Roe Deer — nicknamed "Unicorn" — was born in captivity in the research center's park in the Tuscan town of Prato, near Florence, Tozzi said.

He is believed to have been born with a genetic flaw; his twin has two horns.

Calling it the first time he has seen such a case, Tozzi said such anomalies among deer may have inspired the myth of the unicorn.

The unicorn, a horse-like creature with magical healing powers, has appeared in legends and stories throughout history, from ancient and medieval texts to the adventures of Harry Potter.

"This shows that even in past times, there could have been animals with this anomaly," he said by telephone. "It's not like they dreamed it up."

Single-horned deer are rare but not unheard of — but even more unusual is the central positioning of the horn, experts said.

"Generally, the horn is on one side (of the head) rather than being at the center. This looks like a complex case," said Fulvio Fraticelli, scientific director of Rome's zoo. He said the position of the horn could also be the result of a trauma early in the animal's life.

Other mammals are believed to contribute to the myth of the unicorn, including the narwhal, a whale with a long, spiraling tusk.

Look, I've never seen a gene, have you? No. And they're not mentioned in the Bible, something God would have done if He had created such a thing. It's all nonsense. That's clearly a unicorn.

But god created many things that humans still don't know of today. If you look in the bible, you don't see anything about angler fish or electric eels, yet they exist. The Gene is probably one of Gods greatest creations. The reason you can't see it is because it's apart of your chromosomes which make up your DNA. What genes do is basically show the what the body will be like. It's a very interesting field of Science.

Now read carefully what I'm about to say. We can adapt to change, as in are bodies can react to changes in the environment. When exposed to this kind of change for long periods of time, human bodies try to make their bodies more apt for the change. An example of this could be change in height or the ability to survive longer without water or food. People who think of evolution usually think that humans "evolved" from old crustaceans. This can't be true as very little proof exists and most of it barely even counts as evidence. Even if they think it was over a billion year process, there would be a lot of fossilized evidence.


Science isn't evil. In fact, the basic Laws of Physics prove that there is a God (An object can not be set in motion unless acted upon another force. If there was a "big bang" there would have to something to set it in motion, which would have to be god, not that I believe in the Big Bang.) and a lot of those sciences help us today.

I'm not saying Unicorns don't exist, I'm saying that that deer is not a unicorn.
