'We have broken speed of light'

    By Nic Fleming, Science Correspondent

    Last Updated: 12:01am BST 16/08/2007

A pair of German physicists claim to have broken the speed of light - an achievement that would undermine our entire understanding of space and time.
Albert Einstein won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1921According to Einstein's special theory of relativity, it would require an infinite amount of energy to propel an object at more than 186,000 miles per second.
However, Dr Gunter Nimtz and Dr Alfons Stahlhofen, of the University of Koblenz, say they may have breached a key tenet of that theory.
The pair say they have conducted an experiment in which microwave photons - energetic packets of light - travelled "instantaneously" between a pair of prisms that had been moved up to 3ft apart.
Being able to travel faster than the speed of light would lead to a wide variety of bizarre consequences.

For instance, an astronaut moving faster than it would theoretically arrive at a destination before leaving.
The scientists were investigating a phenomenon called quantum tunnelling, which allows sub-atomic particles to break apparently unbreakable laws.
Dr Nimtz told New Scientist magazine: "For the time being, this is the only violation of special relativity that I know of."

These scientists should be locked up for being frauds and conmen. Pretending to 'know' about stuff they just created out of thin air and having the audacity to ask for money to further their research , and we're expected to 'trust' them and 'believe' what they tell us.
    • If I want to 'know' stuff, I just read my Bible.
    • If I want to believe in something I can't see or touch I have Jesus.
I don't need no science fiction make-believe rubbish when I have the Bible...how stupid do they think we are?

I'd like to see how militant athiests like that Anglican girl respond to this. Last week, their false god science taught it was impossible to break the speed of light. Now their false god teaches it's possible.

In other news, every word in the Holy Bible was true yesterday, is true today, and will be true forever. GLORY!
O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it--for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

God being truth, justice, goodness, beauty, power, and life, man is falsehood, iniquity, evil, ugliness, impotence, and death. God being master, man is the slave. Incapable of finding justice, truth, and eternal life by his own effort, he can attain them only through a divine revelation... he who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter, but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.

I say we research this to the fullest. According to the article an astronaut could theoretically reach his destination before leaving. That alone brings new meaning to the phrase "Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out!". Imagine how many Liberals, scientists and homosexuals we could be sending to the moon every hour with this technology.

Well, if it isn't that nasty joo Albert Eisenstein... you know, his Theory of Moral Relativity is the reason why evilution and fisting are taught in public schools. He also made commie propaganda movies like Battleship Down, only he used cute animals (in that case rabbits) to make his brand of Marxism more appealing to children! Anything that proves him wrong is fine by me.

Why is there so much hate in all of your hearts? Its obvious that all of you do not understand the Quantum Theory, or the Theory of Relativity, or any other scientific theory for that matter, so why even post? To propagate your ignorance? It's almost hard to read through this thread. I would say this one quote applies to ALL of you:

"That which I do not understand, does not work". And of course "Ignorance is Bliss".

As for you Trent, that joke is not funny. There is no need to be racist.
With or without it, you'd have good people doing good things and evil people doing bad things, but for good people to do bad things, it takes religion.

Back on topic, this article makes no sense. Theories and secular science rarely does. Arriving before you left is ridiculous!

I don't need to understand any of that junk. I learn everything I need to know from the Bible, amen.

Not one of those so-called theories will teach you what you really need to know. None of them will tell you how to obtain Salvation. None of them will teach you how to do God's will. Only the Bible can tell you that.

I consider the Bible "junk". But does that make it junk? Nope, and it goes the other way around too.

Not one of those so-called theories will teach you what you really need to know. None of them will tell you how to obtain Salvation.
Of course they won't, thats not what they are far. But this thread wasn't started because of "salvation", it was started because some creationist didn't understand a scientific theory and called it wrong. Read what I quoted earlier. And there is no point in getting off-topic.

None of them will teach you how to do God's will. Only the Bible can tell you that.
As I said before, this has nothing to do with what we are talking about. And as for "gods" will, I do no believe in the horribly vindictive fictional character you call "god". Thus the words in the Bible do not apply to me.

I'm not saying I am 100% right, I can't say that because that is not my stance. I believe in evidence. If you can prove to me that god exists, I'll switch my stance the second you do. But until then, I lack the belief in a deity. Now lets apply that question to you, what if you are wrong? Would your whole life have just been a waste?

There's your problem -- you are looking for evidence, when what you need is faith. You can't find God in a test tube.

sKin: Now lets apply that question to you, what if you are wrong? Would your whole life have just been a waste?
I'd rather live my whole live as if there is a God, and die to find out there isn't, Than to live my life as if there isn't, and find out there is.

If you are right, then won't doesn't matter for either of us. If you are wrong, then there will literally be Hell to pay.
