It is because earth is so large and in comparison sun in much smaller and relatively close to earth. I mean 500 miles is very far away perse, but compared to massive size of earth it can't light up all of the earth at once. Hence differet times of day.

Hmmm... you see, that's what I told her, but you know how kids can be...

Last summer, at the camp, she was looking at fireflies and she tolds me she can see fireflies from very far even if they are very small. She understood the fireflies are too small to light her hands, but she keeps saying me she can see them.

So she wonders why she can't see the sun in the sky at night even if it is very far just like she can see those very small fireflies from a great distance. On that, I'm clueless, I have to admit that even the smallest light is visible in a dark room...

It is exactly the same thing. You can see something as small as fireflies few hundred yards away at max. Same thing with the sun, it's too small for you to see from all the way across the earth. Earth is much larger than few hundred miles.

Thank you for your question. The so-called "scientists" we get on here are very shy of questions like this. They never actually say what their answers would be of course.
I enquired as to the "scientific" explanation for the point you've raised some time ago in this post but as you can see, I've been waiting for some time!

Although I doubt that self-proclaimed "natural philosophers" actually have an answer, nevertheless I put it to you: what is your estimate of "the altitude of God" given the Biblical perspective explained to us in Isaiah 40:22?

You see, there are so many non-believers that we keep fighting an uphill battle against those "scientists". Me and my wife have a strong faith, but our daughter is more vulnerable and have many questions like that. I'm pretty sure she'll come up with something else... she is a strong-willed girl.

If you are strong in your faith, you only need to follow word of God and that problem is taken care of. You see, Jesus has perfect instructions how to handle uppity children.

Thank you for the picture. Here in Australia it is getting dark now. That means the sun is so far away that I can't see it. It's still there but like a car 100km away which might have very bright lights, and although the car headlights (or the sun) may well illuminate quite a large area, the farther away the fainter the light and before long you can'y see it at all.

A day or two ago I read that once the sun goes down it actually zooms back to the place where it arose ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FIRMAMENT which would mean that the vault of Heaven is completely opaque (not made from glass).

Thinking about that it makes sense. We know that Heaven is illuminated by the GloryOfGod and if the sky were "see-through" (like one of those plastic umbrellas) then the night sky would be ablaze!!

But it isn't. Scientists deny The Truth, yet God explains they do actually know what it is. When we see the night we see an unlit starry sky from the day before those stars were ever made.

Experiment 2:
To determine the acceleration due to gravity we would need to use the formula F=(GMm)/r^2 G is the universal gravitation constant and is equal to 6.67*10^-11 N(m/kg)^2, M is the mass of one of the objects, m is the mass of the other, and r is the distance between the centers of mass of the two objects.
The mass of the Earth is 5.97*10^24kg. Also F=ma so we can substitute F in equation with ma, then cancel the m's. So the equation then becomes a=GM/r^2.The Earth's average radius is 6,371,000 m and if we work out the equation for the acceleration we get an acceleration of 9.81 m/s^2 which is the actual acceleration of a falling object on Earth. If we the apply this same equation to the balloon which usually has a mass of around 0.012kg and we assume a radius of 0.0508 m (2in.) we get an acceleration of 3.1*10^-10m/s^2. Since you are doing the experiment near Earth's surface the small piece of paper is being accelerated by both the balloon's gravity and the Earth's gravity, but the Earth's gravity is many orders of magnitude stronger than the gravity of the balloon. In fact the paper would feel a stronger pull from your gravity than it would from the balloon.
