No. It is because the earth is flat. Flat objects can hold things, spherical objects cannot.

Spherical objects just do not hold things. For example. Would you eat of a plate or a beach ball. The plate holds things on because it is flat like the earth.

Oh of course not but that is because the round nature of a beachball provides no resistance to the downward pull the Earth creates. A plate on the other hand does.


I fear we have strayed slightly from my original point though which is that the experiment does not disprove gravity as it is showing gravity at work.

Actually you wouldn't fall out of the truck, you just jump up and land back down where you were in the truck.. I have done this. I have also done this on an airplane.


Also the point you made about the balloon not making the piece of paper stick to it has a couple of flaws. Firstly when you inflate a balloon you do not increase it's mass, you only spread it's mass out over a greater area. Size and mass are 2 different things. Secondly, the earth is bigger than the balloon so it stands to reason that the piece of paper would fall to the ground rather than stay on the balloon as the earth has a stronger gravitational pull.


I would love to hear your thoughts on these problems.

My thoughts are that 1) you have never done this, as a born and raised country girl, I know how difficult it is to ride in the back of a pickup. 2) You couldn't be bothered to read any of the posts to find out that your arguments have been debunked over and over again.

Well, a spherical magnet could hold onto a piece of metal from underneath. The rotational power of the Earth keeps us firmly rooted to it's surface though. A beach ball does not have such characteristics.

I have never seen a spherical magnet, let alone know of any that exist. There is no way anything rotating can attract things. When something is spinning the objects attached to out fly off.

The magnet doesn't have to be spherical. It stands to reason that nothing could balance on the underneath of a cube or a disk. But metal could stick to the bottom of a cube shaped magnet or a disk shaped magnet. The Earth acts basically like a giant magnet, keeping us stuck to it no matter what the shape.

If the earth was spinning in one direction. Say clockwise. What would happen if a object was spinning in the same clockwise direction? Would the objects fall off then.

Now don't get me wrong, the christian religion is a good method of rehabilitation spiritually and morally. Ive gone to church most of my life and I believe in lots of its teachings so when I say this, its not out of spite nor am I bashing anyone who believes what is being taught. That being said, here is a couple of reasons why the earth is round.

Has anyone watch a ship sail off into the sunset? Does it fall off the edge of the earth?? No it doesn't. If you watch a ship through binoculars, the ship sinks under the horizon. If you stand at a higher elevation its going to take longer but eventually the ship will do the same thing regardless of how high you are.

Also note the time changes in different country's and even here in the U.S. If the earth was flat, how would there be even the slightest bit of time difference in where the sun falls in different parts of the world? Right now its 10:37 and dark where im at. Over in Japan, its afternoon. Now lets figure this out.. if the sun where moving along a flat coarse across the earth, how would it eventually get back to the "start" of the "flat earth". Time differences clearly wouldn't be possible if the earth was flat. Use some common sense. Also, You can fly around the earth (which has been proven if you would read a history book). If it was flat, eventually you would fly right into space. Does that sound right to anyone?

One last thing before I go. If any of you actually see pictures of the planet from satellites, the earth is clearly and undeniably spherical in its presents. And don't anyone tell me that satellites aren't real because I can look up at the sky and see them.

The bible in no way explains to us that the earth is a flat surface nor does it even talk about the very issue. I don't know what bible you guys are reading from but PLEASE, do me a favor and take some history and physics classes.

So let me ask you this: Why do you reject the Biblical teaching that the earth is flat, but accept the other stuff? You can go two routes with this...

1)The bad way: By realizing the Bible is wrong about the earth and other things, you begin to think maybe the Bible is wrong about a whole lot of other things....like Jesus saving us from sin, or that God exists. This is the atheist route.
2) The good way: Realize that all the spherical earth arguments are tests of faith. If the Bible truly is from God, it would be inerrant and would not spread misinformation, correct? You believe the Bible is true right? Well, then that means you need to keep your faith and reject what the scientists want you to believe. This is the True Christian(tm) route.

So which will it be?

That bible verse says the Earth is ROUND, not flat, my brothers.
Please, I love Christ too, you must listen to reason.
1. Why we don't land hundreds of feet away when we jump. There is a very simple, not atheistic, not "copping out" way of explaining this. Say you're on a moving ship, in the crow's nest. You drop a cannon ball toward the deck. By your reasoning, it would land in the water behind the ship, right? But you forget the fact that the cannon ball is not falling from a fixed location. It moves as well as the crow's nest is moving as well as the ship is moving. Therefore, when the ball falls, it is still moving at the same speed in the same direction as the ship. As such, it will land on the deck, rather than in the ocean. This is the same circumstance with jumping on earth. We are moving in the same direction, so we will land in "the same place." Since technically all matter is constantly moving, it's not exactly the same place, but we perceive it as such. I dare anyone to argue with this LOGICALLY, and not say "Oh, you are blinded by Satan and atheistic teaching." Please, I beg you to understand.
2. Why the paper does not stick to the bottom of the balloon. First of all, I'm not sure anyone here understand truly what the principle of gravity is. Picture a sheet, spread out with four people holding each corner. We'll call this space. Then, we put a basketball in the middle. The one-dimensional object (the flat sheet) gains another dimension (the ball pulls the sheet down, giving our "space" depth). Now, drop a smaller ball in the mix. It will roll toward the middle, like GRAVITY. Imagine this on a grander, three dimensional scale. Objects will "roll" toward the middle. Similarly, if we through a small ball at an angle on our sheet, it will go AROUND the basketball, like an orbit. So, this being said, imagine our tiny little balloon. It is held above our huge earth, so why, by the principles of gravity, should it stick to the bottom? Earth obviously has a much stronger pull, and the reason a piece of paper would stay on top is only that the balloon is between the paper and Earth, preventing it from touching the floor. This is the first SENSIBLE reason why the experiment is a false indicator. Here comes the second.
Up and down are PERCEIVED. Please, hear me out on this one. All directions are relative. This one is harder to explain, because I'm not sure if anyone reading this even believes in outer space. We were raised all our lives to believe that skyward is up and down is the direction of the ground. Let's talk about inertia. Inertia is the feeling you get when you're in the car, and you stop abruptly. Everyone in the car lunges forward. Say the car moves incredibly fast. Everyone is pulled backward. Say that you were going so fast, that the pull backward was stronger than the pull downward to the earth. Say you were born in this situation, and raised in this situation. Couldn't we say, in this case, that the back of the car was the floor? Then the earth would be backward, the front of the car would be upward, and the sky would be forward. There is no up and down, except by how we see it. Therefore, we cannot say that someone in Australia would "fall off" if the Earth were round, because for them, down is simply toward the center of Earth (you don't have to believe this just yet, just understand that there is an explanation that debunks this experiment). Please, please, please, I beg you my friends, don't tell me that we "gravitationalists" have to try so hard to explain this because it isn't true. Just because something is complicated does not make it false. There are plenty of complicated topics in the bible that you could explain, and be absolutely certain you're telling the truth.
3. The third experiment confuses me a bit, just because it seems so absurd. At least the first two have some logical merit. Just because you get higher and more is seen, does not prove the earth is flat in any way. There is always a horizon. No matter how high you get in Alaska, you will never see Beijing.
Please, listen to me folks. As a Christian, I am truly embarrassed to see you people in your blind ignorance. You don't want to hear anything that goes contrary to your beliefs, even if what you believe does not line up with the word of God! I explained this to you, now please respond INTELLIGENTLY.
