There are many false Christians out there that will tell you that science, even science that doesn't line up with the Bible, is correct. Not only is this blasphemy but it offends Jesus for saying that the book He wrote just isn't good enough, and Jesus is the last person I want mad at me. People need to learn that you can't try to line the Bible up with science. If you do that you end up with what Paul called "science falsely so called".
1 Timothy 6:20
20 "O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:"
Any logical argument is based on logical axioms. If those axioms are wrong, one could create a totally logical and coherent argument that is also entirely false. For example, if I were to assume, as an axiom, that the sky is in fact green, I could create a perfectly logical and coherent argument about why the sky is green. This does not change the fact that the sky is blue. So when an atheist asks you why a good God lets bad things happen, they are assuming duality (the belief in good and evil, contrary to the belief in God and the absence of God, i.e. there is not heat and cold. There is heat and the absence of heat; if you would like to discuss this further please let me know.) is an axiom. But that is another discussion. My point here is that people need to learn to line science up with their Bible, not line their Bible up with science. Science is man's collection of knowledge. The Bible is (in part) God's collection of knowledge. If man if fallable and God is infallable, who is more likely to be right? Exactly. So if God says that He made the sun stand still to give one of his pals an advantage in battle (Genesis 1:14-19) and a scientist tells you that's impossible, you look him square in the eyes and tell him that Jesus told you so. If He created the sun, He can sure as heck tell it what to do! So next time an atheist wants to debate with you, watch for arguments based on false axioms, or as Paul said, science falsely so called. They'll try to pull that one over on you every time!
