Why would anyone want to go to Mars? All the science books say its uninhabitable and red and either hot or cold I dont remember. The Bible never mentions Mars by name or astronauts or even NASA!

Lets imagine a cat floating in empty space, when suddenly it emits a flash of light. The light carries away some Energy (E), so by conservation of energy the cat must have lost energy. However, since the light was deliver from all directions, it wouldn't have change the cat's velocity (Vbefore = Vafter).

Now lets imagine the we're in a spaceship, but from your perspective the cat is outside the window in space. Therefore, you will calculate the cat has some kinetic energy (KE), that is energy of motion, and when you see the cat omit the flash of light, you will again measure the energy decreases by the energy of the light (KE - E). However, now you're moving, relativity tells your how the time passes at different rates than you and the cat, so you'll measure at different value of frequency and, thus, energy and light.

This is called the Doppler Effect. E-->E.(1+v2/2c2). Therefore, if you takeoff from velocity v, you will see the cat gain some kinetic energy of +KE1, then at the flash, you will see the cat's energy decrease by -E.(1+v2/2c2) On the other hand, if you wait, you will see the cat's energy decrease by -E and now when you take off you will see it gain kinetic energy of +KE2.

Therefore:

E.v2/2c2+KE2 = +KE1

E.v2/2c2 + v/2m2v2 = +1/2m1v2

E/c2=m1 - m2 (Change M in mass) OR
