A Question for our Sikh Vistors over the New York Massacure

I have noticed that you Sikhs have protested over and over again that you are not Muslims. That Sikhs are peaceful, unlike Muslims. Does this mean you think gunman would be correct if he had attacked a New York mosque instead?

Please enlighten us.

I am one sikh and my views may not be shared by others.

as mentioned, sikhs are a peaceful religion (like in all religions, not everyone is a true sikh so there are idiots who bring our name down by doing selfish hurtful acts). So to come to our temple with no warning and no motive apart from to scare us into going back to india was extremely hurtful - to me at least.

In our religion, there is no such thing as 'eye for an eye' and we do not force the religion upon anyone.

Should the gunman have attacked a mosque instead? well my personal opinion has many views on this - this is just one;

as a retaliation for 9/11 - you are a bit late but if still bitter, it makes no sense to stoop to the level of alqaeda and try on take on a mosque with a gun. I am guessing that alqaeda would have been unfazed by an attack to muslims who are innocent. muslims who are opposed to alqaeda. in their eyes, you would have been doing them a favour - less work for them.

To all the above posters:

1) Yes Sikhs are not muslims, the turban (if people started reading and stopped watching tv they would know) is exclusively worn by the Sikhs. Unshorn hair is an article of faith for us.

2) It's not a knife, it's a kirpan. Sikhs are to be armed for self defence and protection of the weak. 0ur history very well demonstrates this. Well probably put all you internet warriors to shame.

3) No, we are not emotionally vested in mosques, churches, libraries etc getting burned or people being shot. "Sarbat Da Bhala" Peace and well being of all mankind is a fundamental principle of Sikhi and unique to it. Unlike semetic religions we don't divide people into believers, non believers and then waste time spewing hatred.
