Wow. I feel quite upset reading this forum for the first time. Never before have I seen such hateful behaviour from Christians. Homophoebia, racism, persecution or others, it's almost... contradictory of the positive ambience expected in positive people. "Kill 'em all" is the undeniable leader in the poll, how merciful of you. Thou shalt not kill. Thou shalt however, promote killing on a massive scale? Please don't take me for a non-believing, "gothic", "negroe", "gay", "scooby doo watching" blasphemer, I'm honestly in favour of God and all that is good. This forum however seems to promote Christians as violent and hateful. Even if people are blasphemers and immoral, you could at least do yourselves the favour of remaining calm and respectful towards others instead of acting like a hate group.

I do believe that if you were to drop the "you will go to hell" act and start being more friendly and approachable, more people may be enticed to join you and to join Jesus- instead of being put off by the vicous accusations and judgement. Just a thought. Also, there is an air of ignorance among these boards, claims such as "God wrote the Bible in English because it is His favourite language" which is blatenly missinformed. I personally feel sorry for the young French men who were raised in an atheist family and never learned English. These young ones haven't a chance- they don't speak the favourite language... please.

On the days coming up to Christmas I always get a leaflet posted by my local church. It wishes me a very merry Christmas and joy for my family. It also invites me to take part in various sessions over the week to rejoice and celebrate. It's a heart-warming experience to recieve this leaflet each year, and it really shows the power of God and His love. If however, that leaflet told me I was *insert insults* and that I was going to hell if I didnt attend, then I'd be much less inclined to be in the presence of such hateful people. I hope this post has been an incite and won't be treated as trash, for I am an honest person and am open to opinions, but not to blatent insults. Enjoy your day

Obviously you aren't, or you would take time to read the Bible. If you think "Thou shalt not kill" means to never kill anyone for any reason, how do you reconcile that God's proscribed punishment for witches and sodomites? That's because it doesn't mean never killing ever. Godly capital punishment is perfectly okay, but murder isn't. That's why we're working to have witchcraft and sodomy legislated as capital crimes, just like the Lord commands.

I haven't any problems with God, only with the negative attitudes I've witnessed here. Don't get me wrong, there are some excellent posts and exceptional members, but sometimes it just gets a little disturbing.

When you say capital crimes, you mean that they should be put to death by us humans? I see your reasoning, but on the other hand, if you kill them they will go to hell. If they're left to live their sinful ways they may ultimately come to realise their sin and understand that they should put their faith in Jesus and accept Him as their savior. A little like the man getting crucified with Jesus, perhaps?

You would not be a sinner if you stopped telling people they're going to hell. Instead of focusing on pushing fear into people hearts, why is it not possible to focus on going to heaven, and keep the flow positive. Don't condone people's sinful actions, but please, be a little more approachable and less offensive in your repsonses.

Anyway, if by saying I'm not on sides with God you are attacking me personally, I again feel quite embarassed for this community. A VERY intelligent Christian once said "if you read the Bible thoroughly and truly understand your religion, you will see that yes, a good atheist can go to heaven and a bad Christian can go to hell. It's more about the choices we make, as every good deed we do is ultimately doing a deed for God". So interpretations are one thing, but the choices we make and our actions in the world are what get you to heaven. If one was to do God's word (without realising- ie by not accepting God) then it is understandable that our all loving, all forgiving God would understand (as he is omniscient) that this person did what was right because he THOUGHT IT WAS RIGHT, not because he liked the idea of heaven as an incentive. So I say again, our interpretations differ greatly, but our actions make us the good people we are.

Just how, then, would you "interpret" the following scripture?

Exodus 21:15 And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death.
21:16 And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.
21:17 And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.

Exodus 22:18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.
22:19 Whosoever lieth with a beast shall surely be put to death.
22:20 He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed.

Exodus 31:14 Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.

I haven't even left Exodus yet. So how do you "interpret" those clearly worded commands?
