I'm sorry, people like you are the reason I am consider a "backslider". Anyone who agrees with this is wrong. Any references to rape in the Bible comes from the Old Testament. Do you still sacrifice lambs to wash away your sins? No. This is why JESUS died for our sins. This is why there is an NEW Testament. Not EVERYTHING in the Bible applies to us in this day and age.

You are correct that Jesus's death no longer made animal sacrifice necessary, however, it does not mean we have to throw out the rest of the Old Testament. Did not Jesus Himself say this...

John 5:47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

Moses wrote Deuteronomy, the book in question. Then we have this verse from Paul...

Notice he says ALL SCRIPTURE. He didn't say "Just the parts about Jesus, and maybe some things from Genesis, but you can forget Deuteronomy."

God also says obey the laws of the land, well the law states that RAPE IS WRONG. I don't care what any Pastor, Reverend, Minister, or scripture says. Any man who rapes a women is sinning, and is wrong.

You are right that God says to obey secular laws. And yes, you are very right that RAPE IS WRONG. But tell me, where did you get the idea that God approves of rape based on the Scripture? Where do you get the idea that we approve of rape?

God commanded a rapist to marry his victim. Nowhere in Deuteronomy does God praise the rapist or say its okay. It is a crime and it is a punishment. God hates rape and so do we.

Now, I do think abortion is wrong, and she should keep the child, but seriously, marry the rapist? The guy should be tossed in jail for a long time. What if he is a serial rapist? Does he get multiple wives? Isn't that another religion? You people need to take a step back, and stop living in a lie, because you are taking the word of GOD completely out of context and I feel sorry for anyone who follows this faith. I've been around Christians all my life and I know for a fact that God wouldn't be pleased and probably somewhat angry with the wolves in sheep clothing on these forums. You are misleading flocks and making what is consider the Word of God the Word of Trash. You all should repent and read the Bible again.
Forgive them Lord for they know not what they do.

Please show us where exactly we take things out of context. If anything, we are having this discussion because we take a certain verse precisely in context while the rest of you want to ignore the verse and pretend it never happened (all the while calling us evil for simply following God)

This is exactly how and why wars were fought so many years ago, because you read it one way and I read it another. What was stated in John before these verses, it has nothing to do with following scripture word for word. It's a singular instance of John stating that the word of God is what it is. I'm sure rapists were stoned to death in that day and age. Seriously, I never said you condone rape, I believe you are taking the word of God and making it something it's not.

Please, do you actually think Paul had access to all of the Old Testament when he wrote that? Specifically the verses where rape is noted? I think he would have asked the Lord for guidance if he read any scripture concerning rape. Mass production of the Bible didn't come until the 1800's. Paul only had what Jesus and The Lord gave him, and what he knew. Also, notice the word, righteousness. Raping a women is not righteous by any means. The Bible contradicts itself and the proof is in your post. What do we do? Obey the laws of the land or the Bible which states obey the laws of the land? Does marrying the rape victim wash away the sin of the crime? Nope. We all know the only way to be forgiven of a sin, through Jesus.
I've read this thread and know I'm not going to get anywhere, it upsets me when people call themselves Christian when they have skewed views of what the Bible actually means. Your True Follows here have some mighty big ego's which is also wrong according to the Word. True Christians are humble in the eyes of God. I'm getting off topic, I'll stop here.

I happen to agree with you on this. However it is worth pointing out that the way we read the Bible (in context) is the correct way and heretics have twisted the Word of God(c) and caused wars. Think of the papist Crusades.

Actually it's Jesus saying those words, not John. Jesus is giving authority to the Old Testament in those verses. Here is another quote from Jesus...

Matthew 4:4 Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Jesus is saying we should follow every word of God. Are you trying to say that the Book of Deuteronomy is not of God, then?

This is completely false. Any Biblical scholar will tell you that Paul had access to Deuteronomy. You realize that Paul was originally a Jew and Deuteronomy is one of the five books of the Jewish Torah, right? Not to mention the numerous passages in Paul's writings that reference Deuteronomy and other books of the Old Testament.

I will say that was more of an opinion in regards to Paul and what he had access to.

Friends,

I recently received a letter from a concerned parent. In the letter she told me that her daughter had been raped, but was refusing to marry her rapist. The stupid girl actually wants to press charges on the man!

Not only that, but that she also plans to kill the poor unborn baby her rapist had given her! Sickening! Have young people today got NO morals?

Any and all advice on what I can say to convince this girl to do the right thing would be great. Should I start with the basics ?

"Whore, you'll burn in Hell for all eternity - unless you marry your rapist"??

Or should I go for a more subtle approach??
