Greetings, my name is Bryn, and I am currently unreligious; but have been considering it as of late. Through my methods, I have recently stumbled upon your rather audacious forum. One of the first threads I reviewed was this one, and although I have to remind myself to respect your fallacious menagerie of opinions; I do not like to hold you true, when you have morbidly conflicting inconsistencies in your preachings. Quoted above, in my own synopsis, is a rather sexist, sadistic and perverse rant on how women need be literally burnt, if they are to be discovered a harlot, or if they are discovered to have their hymen in a state of imperfect. The preamble also discusses selling women away for rape or slavery, if they are to be found "useless".

Although the entire preamble of this thread is built upon ambiguity and malevolence; I really only need one example to show how this man attempts to indoctrinate us into a criminal and inhumane state, a state with the loss of kindness and reciprocity.

The example I am to use today, is his quotation of Genesis 38:24. Rather frequently on this site, I see people with a high status attempting to diminish other neophytes through a common query: "Have you EVEN tried to read the bible?" or "Have you EVER tried to read the bible?". Now I am beginning to wonder the same thing upon them. Surely, it is obvious that some of these men have indeed gone to their "sacred" [http://www.biblegateway.com] and attempted to read quotes at one time or another. But do they honestly read the bible in full? It seems to me that they just enter a key word ("burnt, burn, burned, burning" are likely the case) and then read whatever quote is given to them, without reading the context or the postlude. Let me explain.

When I read that quote, I found it rather hard to believe that something supposedly chalk-full and primed with love and kindness such as the bible incite something so utterly disenchant. When I was still a religious man, I was always taught that the body was a sacred and private thing, and that disrespecting it, however sacrilegious, was acceptable because Jesus had died to allow us to realize and repent our sins. I had learned that God and Christ were a forgiving and humbling duo. In no way would they ever want us to literally burn someone we have suspect to believe attempted to procreate.

So to retain my intellect and common sense, I myself ventured to read the bible. Using my own King James Version, as well as the BibleGateway version, I have come upon a benevolent discovery. Neither Judas, nor Jesus nor God have ever burnt a female for harlotry. Perhaps it implies so in the quote he gave us, but upon review of Genesis 38:1-38:30, one comes upon a different conclusion.

"25 When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff.

26 And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.

27 And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb"

She was never burnt. For sake of space and time, I will not post the entire section of Genesis 38, but I can give you a brief synopsis. Genesis 38 describes in vagueness the romantic ongoings of Judas. It describes how he met his first and second wife who bore him children, and eventually died. As we begin to approach the end of the section; we encounter a parable regarding Judas' turmoils after the death of his second wife. In his grief, Judas searches out for sexual and romantic pleasure, and finds a woman by the name of Shelah, who also happens to be his daughter-in-law, although this is unbeknownst to him. In the bible, it is explained that she was a veiled figure, and because of this, Judas believed her to be of harlotry. Judah attempts to conceive with her, and in turn pays her for her body. She leaves shortly after their affair. Some time in the future, Judas searches out Shelah, for reasons unexplained. When she cannot be found, as she was not actually a harlot but rather a traveling member of his own family, Judas begins to grow angry. Unfortunately another woman, by the name of Tamar was pregnant and had similar features to Shelah, and was living with Judas at the time. In his rage, Judas asks for her to be burnt. This however, does not happen after Tamar and her husband prove her righteousness. She provides three strong males, and Judas repents the events with Shelah.

My comrades, the bible never asks for anyone to be literally burned. Judas called for it in his rage, and didn't actually follow through. As the bible is so old itself, it is also a possibility that the term of "Burnt" is metaphorical, and would imply that she is to be punished, or branded via words and remembrances.

This site has left me anything but speechless, as I encounter your ignorant, bumbling, hypocritical kind. You discount the muslim religion as being full of harlots, barbarians and other malevolent kind; but here you incite rape, murder and slavery. You claim that others who argue your point have never read the bible, yet one who does not even contrast himself as a religious individual finds inconsistencies in your own "reading".

You may pray to your God, and I will pray to mine. I shall pray to Christ in all his name as well as the God who tells me to love and feel kindness, that one day, hopefully soon; you will find something you are clearly lacking. Common sense. Just because the First Amendment says you can say what you want to say, It does not say you need to say it.

I'm so grateful that my grandparents never treated me, or anyone else, this way. I'd be absolutely mortified if they did. I also think my mother would have nothing to do with them..!!

They, being respectable Christians, love me and my family even though we're not Christian. They most certainly did not persecute me or my brother for loving computer games. They loved their dogs like they were human. They have close friends who are differently coloured, and don't treat them like circus freaks. They don't mock gay people. They simply live out their lives doing good things for people, being generally nice, and I have the utmost respect for them because all they've ever done is bring positive influences to other peoples' lives. They even have a sense of humour, and don't quote the Bible for every damn thing in their life.

Do you know what? You lot ... I just have no words for you. You judge everything and everyone 'by the book', even though you yourselves have got a lot to answer to. And I don't just mean to any 'God', I mean to yourselves. You do realise how we're supposed to have advanced by now?
