I was simply intending to point out that Love is the greatest of all things, and that loving is more of a priority than ANYTHING else.

God's laws are not a matter of priority. All of them have to be followed. Please never forget that.

Honestly, I don't think Catholics are that bad. Aside from their symbolism sometimes becoming literal, and a few books of the Bible that we don't accept they have the same basic beliefs.

Truly believing, the only way to avoid Hell (Mark 16:16, Revelation 21:8, John 15:6, John 14:6), is not something you can approach or simulate. Either you wholeheartedly believe in all that God has taught us, or you don't. This is not something that should be sugarcoated. Altering the Bible, as Catholics do, is simply not allowed (Deuteronomy 4:2, Revelation 22:18-19, Psalm 12:6-7). Catholics worship statues of saints and they pray to Mary, which is totally unbiblical (Exodus 20:4-6).

Does this not mean we should help others to love God, and then later fear Hell, instead of vice-versa?

What you are essentially saying here is that we should keep part of God's laws secret, simply because the truth might shock people. This is wrong. All people should be taught about all that God has to offer. We should not assume to know better than God and decide what information people should or should not get. That some of God's truths might scare people is irrelevant here.

This is one of the things Catholics used to do in the dark ages. Most people didn't even have access to a Bible. Very wrong as everyone should have free access to God's word. King James did the world a huge favor when he organized the King James Bible project, finally allowing ordinary people access to the holy scripture.

Telling only part of God's story is simply completely wrong.

Not formally, no. I didn't go to school for it. But I know it well enough. Hope that doesn't mean I'm automatically stupid.

I already expected this. And no, it does not make you "stupid". But it would be very wise to spend more time on studying your Bible. The Bible is the final authority. Knowing all of it and living your life accordingly is more important than anything else in your life. Achieving salvation is tough, hard and unpleasant, but you will have an eternity in Heaven knowing you did the right thing.
