I will try to keep my responses brief; if you feel I needed to respond to something specific, please let me know and I'll address it.

First, let's get this out in the open: if you get sent to prison, you will get sodomized by a man named Bubba. That means that by killing a homersexual, you yourself become one. That's not a good deal, now is it?

That is 100% correct. You do have a point bringing up Leviticus, however, because most Christians really do cherry-pick. For example, they will cite the part about homersexuality being an abomination, but skip the part about eating shrimp. Let's just say: we do not eat shrimp. Or you might meet a fluffy-bunny Christian who will claim that pretty much the entire Bible is metaphorical, except for -- you guessed it -- the parts that do fit their agenda.

The law still needs to be enforced. Secondly, secular law at the time of the crucifixion was most definitely not in line with Biblical law.

No, the point is that secular law and Biblical law, as it stands, are mutually exclusive. They do not agree with one another. They contradict.

The mistake you're making is elevating both parts to exactly equal status and context. That way, you do indeed get a contradiction, but this contradiction is a result of your own construction. That's my point.

I myself feel no conflict whatsoever. Secular law actually has many provisions that give religion exempt status. Most courthouses feature the 10 commandments prominently and then there's the famous "in God we trust", etc. Actually, I'd say that it was pretty prudent and lenient on God's part to include this rule.

Your acceptance or refusal of a claim against your religion does not hold any sway in the grander scheme of Christianity.

Then why is it important to you? I have no problem retracting my claim about your intent and let you tell me why this argument is important to you (or rather: not unimportant). Even if you get me to concede to everything, you will still have to deal with the cherry-pickers. But perhaps you agree those are easier to disprove.

I'm sorry, but you've just outlined the exact example I am making.

Okay, but look at where your argument leads: essentially, you're saying we cannot go to Heaven unless we follow a) God's commandment to follow secular law AND b) God's commandment to kill homersexuals AND c) God's commandment to follow ALL commandments. Thus, BOTH (a) and (b) need to be satisfied.

With other words: you are, in a way, convincing us that the ONLY way to go to Heaven is to fix secular law. I know this is not your intention, but it is a logical conclusion if your frame of reference is that the Bible is true.



But, since you like contradictions so much, I'll give you another one.

It's clearly stated that incest is wrong, correct? Yet here, we have a situation right after the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah where Lot's two daughters rape him two nights in a row:

Genesis 19:31 And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:
19:32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
19:33 And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
19:34 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
19:35 And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
19:36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.

Then a bit further in Leviticus, this scenario is condemned. Why? Different times, different rules.

So why is it so unthinkable that in a later section of the Bible, God tells His people to err on the safe side?

It's irrelevant -- it is perfectly possible to construct a real story with no contradictions whatsoever. The fact that a contradiction is not present does not, by itself, say anything about the truth of the story.

I'm sorry, but not having a faith is, theoretically, as unbiased as one can possibly be. The very act of adhering to a religion means you have principles, ideas, and motives that you do not waver from. You cannot accuse me of being the 'unbiased' one in this discussion when you yourself practically define your life by a doctrine of bias.

I think you meant 'biased', not 'unbiased'. I just noticed that you appeared to feel strongly about this subject. After all, you are the one who signed up to a Christian forum. I didn't sign up to an atheist forum. While your personal motivations are irrelevant in rational discourse, it does interest me.

What I said was not negative. We are not friends. One cannot assume friendship without certain prerequisites being fulfilling, prerequisites that GOD=life hasn't even come close to reaching, if he does indeed want to be my 'friend'.

So this is how you approach someone who is nice to you. You probably do not realize this, but you have a big problem.
