You are mistaken. Not only do you have to get rid of the tattoo. You will have to remove the entire hand it's on. If you do not do this, you will burn in Hell. The Bible is extremely clear on that.

Mark 9:43: "And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched"
