A good friend had a startling request

Davy, a good friend from church, strong in his faith, and Godly in his word and deed, literally floored me with a theological question today at our Men's Prayer Breakfast.

He said that even if he goes to heaven when he dies, he will beseech the Lord to send him to Hell to spread God's Holy Word, even in the very depths of that gruesome fiery pit.

I was stunned. I did not want to discourage his amazing Faith, but I doubt this would be allowed. I told Davy that it would be hopeless to minister to the fallen in Hell, they have already been adjudged and condemned. Davy said it would not be hopeless, as he would bring hope to Hell, and even if he never saved one fallen heart, it would be his thanksgiving unto the Lord to try.

Well, he stumped me. I admire his steadfast faith, but turning down his eternal reward in Heaven to minister in Hell, I dunno. . . .

Does anyone here have any wise counsel for my friend ??

Yes. He's an idiot who needs to read his Bible instead of fantasizing about visiting the damned:

    Luke 16:

25But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

26And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.
Even if Dave could visit Hell, he would not bring hope to Hell. There is no point in preaching about God to people who know full well that He is real. They will have met Him, been judged by Him, and condemned by Him to be tortured in the flames for all eternity. What would Dave accomplish other than to rub their noses in their damnation? And what makes him think flaming souls will want to or even be able to listen to him speaking over all the shrieking in agony?
    Bible boring? Nonsense!

You can't be a Christian if you don't know God's Word!

The verdict on Judgement Day is unconditional.
There are no parole, no purgatory.

And why bother once we are in Heaven?
People are going to hell by free will.
      They want to be there.
"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

Re: A good friend had a startling request

I think it is pointless to preach to the sinners in Hell.
As everyone knows, God considers a repentant person up until it becomes a last minute deal, sort of "I ignored God all my life, I am going to die in 30 seconds, I repent". Those sinners God gets a good laugh at as he boots them down the trash chute to eternal damnation. Based on that, once you are in Hell, that is it. There is no more chances to 'turn things around'. That is why God offers free will. We have the choice during these few years to live by His Word©. This is decision time folks. Sort of like saying "I do' only with much greater significance.
The only contact a sinner will have with God once they have gone to Hell is to shovel the feces that fall from Heaven.
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

Why doesn't he just move to San Francisco? I'm sure he'll fit right in. (I didn't mean it that way).

It does seem that he's sort of trying to "out martyr" someone, isn't he?

Afterall, God decides who goes where. If God had wanted to appoint an Apostle to Hell, He would have done it a long time ago. Does this fellow think that he is more creative than God when it comes to ministry opportunities?

Didn't Jesus already make the ultimate sacrifice both for the souls in hell and your friend, too? Is he trying to honor Christ or compete with Him?

This reminds me of those zealot types that I remember hearing about who went around nailing themselves to crosses. It's been done, people!

I think it's kind of insulting. GOD is working very hard to make sure people who don't worship Him suffer in the greatest capacity He can provide. Isn't it working against His divine plan to attempt to bring HOPE to these foul sinners?

You know, I would love to do this, I really would -- however, if the LORD calls for Hell Pit preachers I won't be volunteering ... it's my fair skin, you see. Burns very easily. And if He calls for volunteers to show their selflessness via trading places with those in Hell, I feel it would be inappropriate for me to do so, seeing as the LORD knows how selflessly I toil(ed) during this lifetime for His Glory ... in fact, it would be incredibly selfish of me to trade places with someone damned, as by doing so I would be preventing some other Christian from demonstrating their selflessness.

Trading places with the damned is, it would seem, not an option -- after all, it isn't mentioned in the Bible ... however, who knows what opportunities the LORD might spring upon us in Heaven? He might very well have all sorts of surprises in store for us, Glory! And I just know that every Christian, every real Christian would be more than happy to sacrifice their eternal life if it meant saving someone else.

After all, the joy of knowing you proved yourself selfless -- truly Christ-like -- would be of some comfort whilst you suffered eternally, would it not? Just imagine how such an act would please God! Of course, many false Christians use Christianity as a form of self-preservation, and would be too cowardly to sacrifice themselves in such a manner. However, that's neither here nor there as GOD is going to throw them into Hell anyway, Glory!

                    Thanks for the input everyone.

Looks like I was on the right track, just was taken aback by the oddness of his idea. After services tomorrow I will bring Davy up to speed.

Have you asked yourself why he wants to preach in Hell that desperatly? Why doesn't he preach now? It seems he's looking for sin if you ask me. Sinning in the afterlife that is. Make sure he's not a homer.

I think Davy is just swept up in his Salvation. He had some tough times growing up, and if not for Jesus, he would be dead or in prison.
