    Then you never truly believed.

I had a whole rant planned out to go in here about people assuming that their own, narrow experiences have any relevance to complete strangers on the internet, ESPECIALLY about religious matters, but then I read one of your responses in another thread where you go bragging about your thinking capacity and so I'm going to save it for someone worth talking to.

As a former Christian, I can gladly say that nothing really changes. You continue to live out your life as you had before. In fact, after I left, I became much happier and less hateful towards other people.

Re: What is it like to be an atheist?

I had the opportunity to interview an atheist to get some ideas of his moral values and exactly what he considers worthy of belief.

Brother Larry: Thank you for agreeing to speak with me this afternoon. Would you like some Sunny D and Cheetos?

    Atheist: Nope. Got any beer?

    BL: Sorry, but no.

A: (snickers) Figures. So let's get on with it.

BL: If you were to define what an atheist believes, how would you do so?

A: First let me say that believing in something doesn't make it so. Children believe in Santa Claus until they figure out where those presents really came from. So far he hasn't appeared anywhere.

BL: Wait. Are you saying there's no Santa?

A: (Staring, incredulously) Um, sorry Larry, that's exactly what I'm saying.

At this point I paused for an hour or so to recuperate from the shock of what he had just told me. Then I resumed questioning:

BL: Thanks for giving me a moment to regroup. Now, we were discussing beliefs.

A: I am just saying that there is no need for belief or faith if you accept that what is, is.

    BL: Can you define "is?"

A: Whatever, Bill Clinton. What I am saying is, if you can see it, it's real. You don't have to have faith in it, you don't have to believe in it. It's there.

BL: I've never seen Spain. Is it there?

A: Idiot. Plenty of people have seen Spain. The fact that you haven't seen it doesn't mean it's not there.

BL: Couldn't you use the same logic in considering the existence of God?

A: Nope. God is a concept, not a reality. No one has seen him.

BL: That isn't so. The Holy Bible tells me that many have seen Him, and many have seen His Son.

A: It is not logical to use a book that speaks of your beliefs to support those beliefs.

BL: So, if I use a book by an atheist to help me accept atheism, that isn't valid?

A: You are putting words in my mouth. I am saying, it isn't logical to base a belief from the very volume that expounds that belief.

BL: (puzzled) I should not read books about atheism, then. Right?

A: Right. Well, wait a second. What I mean is...

BL: I think I know what you mean. You can't trust someone that has written about a particular belief system because their logic is based on those beliefs instead of reality.

A: Right. I think. (chuckles) I still think you're playing with my mind.

BL: That's not my intent. Really.

    A: OK, man. What else?

BL: How do you determine what's right and wrong?

A: Natural law, common law, the laws of the land, and my rights as a human being. I can't violate yours, and you can't violate mine.

BL: Where did our world come from?

    A: I don't know. I don't think anyone knows. Does it matter?

    BL: Does it?

A: Not enough for me to pursue finding out.

BL: I'm really not trying to be a jerk, but it sounds like something only matters - period - if it matters to you. Are atheists always this selfish? What would you say to the person that really has a desire to know our origins?

A: It isn't selfish to refuse to accept a fairy tale. Is it?

BL: Dude, I'm asking you. And I didn't say a word about fairy tales.

A: So, to answer your question...(thinks for a while)...I would probably tell someone to use science, logic, and embrace whatever seems right.

BL: I'm not clear on your meaning, but let's move on.

A: You aren't clear because you're stuck on your god thing.

BL: I'm not stuck on anything. I am asking you to explain. Don't blame me if I don't see your point. I am trying to.

A: The problem with people that believe in God is that they refuse to allow anyone to talk about a different way of thinking.

    BL: Have I stopped you?

A: Not literally. But you have stopped me, and I think I'm done.

BL: Well, that's your choice. Thanks.

Nonsense! AIDS was created by God to punish severe sinners like the gays, Disney employees and Obama voters. So you can get AIDS from reading opinions, if those opinions displease God! You have been warned.

Wow, it was just a forum like yours but on the other end of the ideological-scale. It does not give you Aids to read others opinions. It can actually only be spread through the exchange of bodily fluids. What is wrong with my attitude? Is it the whole "listen to others opinions even if they are different from my own"-thing?

You know, I got a message that I was rude on this forum, so I figured:

Ok, let’s really be Mr nice guy here and use no insults or strong language at all.

Then I met you and realized that being rude to you guys and to me are very different things. To me it is saying things like "I would catch aids if I listened to you for five minutes". To you it is having an opinion that is not yours.

He does? What does he sound like? I bet he sounds like Morgan Freeman.

Oh dear God.....I quoted the wrong translation and therefore deserve an infraction. How perverse of me. Please forgive me. After all with all those other translations out there it is an easy mistake to make. None the less I am so embarrassed.... Here please find the King James translation of the verse I quoted. In all humility I am - E.N.

    1 Timothy 4:10

    King James Version (KJV)

10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of ALL men, specially of those that believe.

Silly heathen, that's not what the Bible says. Fooled by the Hollywood are we?

The violent disposition of this atheist is typical of their tribe.

This is why most congregations are heavily armed and why we hire off duty policemen to stop traffic as we make our getaway around noon or so of a Sunday.

Ah, I get it. You don't like being faced with the truth, so you start issuing death threats?

This is just so typical of the atheist.

He can't understand the Word of God as laid out in the Holy Bible KJV 1611, so he lashes out with hatred.
