Warning: Do not EVER buy anything second-hand!

I don't always see eye-to-eye with Pat Robertson, but I must say he is spot-on with his latest advice, which is that if you should happen to purchase, say, a used sweater at a Goodwill or Salvation Army store, you'd better pray over it, because it may have demons.

Personally, I think that if you're in the position of buying used clothes in the first place, you're probably one of those lay-abouts who refuses to lift yourself up by your own bootstraps.

The way I see it, the only reason to ever buy something used is if you're looking to get around restrictive gun laws or you want a real car, the kind that didn't come from the factory with catalytic converters.

Re: Warning: Do not EVER buy anything second-hand!

Now, I would never buy it and I know that most reputable places like Goodwill or the Salvation Army won't even accept it, but would you believe there are several websites that actually sell used underwear, and what's more they are asking ridiculous prices for it. I can't believe they expect to get that kind of money out of it. To date I've only seen women's used underwear available, and the strange thing is that men are the ones who are primarily buying it. Don't they know that they can by brand-new undergarments for their wives for a lot less?

Why don't wives sew most of the clothing?

Although I have bought second hand blankets for animal bedding. I always wash them in bleach first though.

        Does bleach kill demons?

Well I like to collect old toys and dolls from the 80s, and they don't make those new, so I guess I'll be hitting thrift shops and yard sales.

When you buy anything used, you run the risk of it having been touched by a Homofagual or other ethnic person, which could then get on you.
Who in their right mind wants used BVD's?
Isaiah 45:7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.
Amos 3:6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the LORD hath not done it?
Numbers 21:6 And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.
Matthew 10:34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
Matthew 10:35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Matthew 10:36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

Re: Warning: Do not EVER buy anything second-hand!

So called alternative people (hippies, new agers, voodoo, leftists, kamasutra worshipers etc) claim that second-hand shopping is sustainable for the environment and a good way for poor people to make money, but neither of these claims stand up to closer analysis.

First, second-hand shopping rely on transportation of goods, as with any shopping. But while new stuff is usually transported in a highly efficient way (otherwise it would be a too large cost for most business owners), used stuff is usually transported in ordinary cars. The cost is hidden because those who arrange second-hand shops usually talk friends into driving the stuff around for free. They usually not even pay the driver for gas.

Second, selling second-hand stuff have a negligible profit. People who buy second-hand stuff do often expect to bargain the prices, a practice which rather belong to a corrupt third world country than a civilized Christian society. Most sellers are on welfare, which covers up for the missing incomes. The average seller makes less than $10 an hour, and that's not counting all work they beg "friends" to help with for free.

A spontaneously arranged market for used things should be compared with begging and not small enterprise.

No profit in secondhand items? I think you are mistaken.

I don't get it. These second hand dealers are helping millions of people worldwide to have some warm cloths to wear. It's very Christian to want to help the less fortunate.

My friend, poverty is a choice:
Deuteronomy 8:18 But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day.

The so called generosity in second hand markets is actually generosity with other people's time and money, as vast help from "friends" is usually required to transport the goods in a far from optimal way. Add to this the uncertainty factor in the needed amount of work - that helpful friend can never expect to know how much time he need to allocate.

Whilst I find the idea of second hand clothes unappealing to say the least, filling one's home with fine antique furniture is a trait that demonstrates class and distinction.

My dear Elizabeth is particularly averse to plasticky, modern items of furniture, and I agree with her entirely. When I go furniture shopping, I always take Mary the Medium along with me, so that she may relay Elizabeth's thoughts on the items that I view.
