I came across this old gem on YouTube. Doesn’t it make you angry that 99% of pastors are universalists at funerals? They act as if the deceased has gone to heaven even if they know the deceased wasn’t a Christian. Or they might give the family false hope by suggesting the deceased may have repented in their final moments without telling anyone. Not this pastor. He tells it like it is. Most of the friends and family can’t handle the truth and storm out once they see where he’s going. One woman calls out, “The Bible says not to judge.” The Bible doesn’t actually say that if you read it in context. But as the pastor points out, it’s his duty to warn people about hell (Ezek 3:17-21). It’s not judging to warn people of danger. And let’s not forget who would be most indignant if their families were not warned about hell – the deceased themselves!
Lk 16:27-31
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:
28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.
29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.
30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.
31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
When someone ends up in hell, even though they incapable of love or goodness, what they want most is for their family and friends to avoid their fate. It would be doing the deceased a disservice to sugar coat it for the family. Some people just can’t handle the truth. For them, religion is supposed to give them comfort in time of hardship. But that’s not what Christianity is about.
