Today in London a crowd turned out to cheer The Donald at some parade or other. Much to everyone's disappointment, the president had a subsequent engagement - sorting out the Messicants, I think - and was unable to attend. But if there is any doubt about the outpouring of love and enthusiasm for him, you only have to look at this. (The road in question is The Mall - the very street which the president's cavalcade drove along earlier in the week.)

Given the high spirits over Donald Trump and Brexit, suspending Parliament for 4 months seems such a good idea. It can be a national celebration like Black History Month but held four times in a row to really concentrate minds, and excluding Scotland and Northern Ireland and with more old white people and aristocrats wearing top hats. The Queen and her new Bestie will surely be thrilled to see crowds forming outside her houses.

I particularly like this young Raab man. From what I understand he quit the job of Brexit Minister in protest at the terrible job being done by the Ministry charged with handling Brexit. Fortunately if he wins the election and becomes President, he can fully unleash himself. The plan, if I understand correctly, for his first non-act is to refuse to open Parliament for the next 4 months until the deadline quietly expires and all the bad stuff goes away.

Future Prime Minister Raab is the sort of man President Trump can do business with, even though his father was some sort of Chzeck and his wife is a Brazilian. Or maybe I mis-read that and she has a Brazilian?

Britain seems refreshed and invigorated at the prospect of one more round - possibly for the last time ever - of conservative gut-wrenching and whining about hot-button issues from the 19th Century. Liberals with their superior modern attitudes about "evidence" and "studies" don't seem to get it. The crucial issues in Britain - as in America - are borders, abortion, gaysexness and maximizing patrioticness to 11.

Boris Johnson has the Trumpian hairstyle of a true leader, but I really do admire Jeremy Corbyn's stance on the Jews.

You raise an interesting point, Brother. Technically, it is not too late for Mr Corbyn to resign from the party he currently "leads", join Mrs May's party, and throw his hat into the ring in their leadership contest.

I understand that she will remain as some sort of caretaker, in charge of sweeping policy under the carpet and feeding the cat, until the interminable voting for her replacement is over. Her successor will (theoretically) be announced towards the end of July. They will then be able to shut down parliament for the summer and all go on a well-deserved holiday.

Boris Johnson has the Trumpian hairstyle of a true leader, but I really do admire Jeremy Corbyn's stance on the Jews. Not that the petty politics of some backwater island have any bearing on global affairs like American politics do, but the British subplot does provide a diverting little sideshow for the people who actually matter . Those of us who bother to pay any attention to the clownish antics of Europeans, at any rate.

It is officially Prime Ministress May's last day in office tomorrow. I wonder if the children will be allowed to bring in games from home?

Mrs. Lytton-Vasey, what a pleasure it was to open this thread and find such large colorful photographs bursting out of my computer screen! I just ADORBS when billionaires get together and the "free press" decide to take up the front 5 pages of every newspaper and online news outlet covering it. What else could possibly be happening in the world?

Anyway - thank you for that - meanwhile I happened to find this very horrible music video made in 2014 before Britain itself became "free". Watch closely and you can see the different factions tearing Britain apart from within - they hate eachother. It must be such a relief there now everyone can finally feel part of something bigger than a Union of 28 European countries bound by a thousand years of shared history. Perhaps one day we can hear Tiffany's beautiful Soprano voice electronically tuned and fed to giant plasma screens in London instead of this nostalgic garbage. USA! USA!

Dr Toole, you'll be pleased to learn that not one single protester was seen or heard by the President during his many, many 3 mile helicopter journeys between the garden of Buckingham Palace and the garden of the US ambassador's residence. Rather, as he informed us, the streets - in particular the road leading off from Buckingham Palace (which was closed to the public) - was thronged with cheering supporters.

They apparently enjoyed their dinner last night: see how smart the Donald looked in his perfectly tailored white-tie outfit.



The children were a credit to him too. Ivanka's charming hoedown-look is particularly fitting for a state banquet. And Tiffany is every inch the dainty Wagnerian soprano. I do hope they asked her to sing. I like, also, that the boys + Jared had taken on board The Donald's style tips and refused to bow to the convention of having the bottoms of their white vests (waistcoats, as the Godless Brits call them) shorter than the front of their tailcoats. Sadly only Donnie Jr went the whole hog and hid his shirt-cuffs, like a Real American™.

Some of you may be aware (though nobody would blame you if you're not) that Mrs May is now a soon-to-be-ex-Prime-Minister, having tearfully, with public displays of snot, announced her departure. She did this in a fit of pique because nobody will let her get her own way. ("Typical woman", said my dear husband, and I agree.) But she has given two weeks' notice, which means that she will still be PM for the duration of Brother President Donald's visit next week. I wonder how he will feel about being hosted by such a loser?

In fact, she will still be "acting-PM" until she is replaced as party leader. The process of replacing her is quaint. Any one of the Members of Parliament in her party can apply. There are currently around a dozen wannabees, though this number could rise to anything up to 312 (i.e. all the MPs in her party, minus her - unless of course she chooses to put herself forward again, which is not beyond the realms of possibility). The other MPs from the party then whittle them down to two by an interminable series of votes.

At this point, unless one of the final two loses the will to live and backs down, the final selection is put to a democratic public vote. Only actual members of her party (around 120,000, minus the ones who are comatose or dead or don't understand the question - and this may be rather a lot of them) can vote, which is as it should be. And the winner gets to run the country and negotiate our Freedom from the Europeon Disunion.

Brother President Donald has come out in favor of American-born Boris Johnson - a much-loved MP, affectionately known as BoJo. The Donald has also confirmed his staunch Republican anti-monarchical principles by pointing out that Meghan Markle is a nasty woman. (We are frankly astonished that he has even agreed to meet the queen, let alone have dinner with the woman! My husband politely declined our invite to that occasion, claiming a "previous engagement".)

In the meantime, Brexit has pretty much been forgotten by everyone except the Europeons.

The negotiations continue, mostly between Mrs May and her alleged supporters, but today she has bravely appeared in a stylish new Neoprene outfit.

Yes except Thatcher was a closet liberal with her pro-EU attitude and quaint belief in negotiation. Red lines and constituional crises are the True Way to rule.

I am reading now that there will be a 4th vote. She is truly a sucker for punishment. But perhaps 4th time's the charm. The really really last vote, srlsy no backsies. This is the kind of innovation that Britain's ruling class excelled at in World War 1, sending conscripts over the top into machine gun fire again and again. And again. And maybe again?

It only has to pass once and then it's enshrined in Law for all time. So basically it's like gambling except you get to keep the winnings and don't have to takes the losses. So more like capitalism.

To their credit, the British finally got around to making some practical battle tanks in WWI (although Leonardo da Vinci seems to be credited with the idea).
