  • Re: Which will last longer: Brexit dream or Trump presidency?

With Brexit on everyone's minds, the UK government has finally done the right thing and decided to not ask them about it. Instead there will be another general election. The purpose of this election, as opposed to the last two, is to ??? and finally solve ???. (Although it would be a shame to waste a good economic crisis once Brexit happens).
If I have seen further, it is by standing on the heads of others.

My daughter Hannah (11) has just asked: "Who's going to be in charge of the Conservative Party after tomorrow? Because tomorrow is October 31st, which is the day Mr Johnson promised to leave Europe, and we all heard him tell the policemen that he'd rather be dead in a ditch than stay any longer. And God will surely grant him his prayer."

Neither I nor her brothers know quite how to answer this. I suppose we will just have to wait and see who takes over on November 1st.

Mrs. Lytton-Vasey, you can tell little Hannah that there is minimal risk of any Conservatives dying in a ditch in the United Kingdom. The socialist opposition has decided their best strategy is to decisively take control of Parliament and then remain indecisive on Brexit. Endless extensions, endless debate. Not only that, they have chosen to splinter into competing groups that draw red lines so as to make co-operation impossible. If I weren't so honest and trusting, I would think The Establishment (comprising a vastly disproportionate percentage of Eton/Oxbridge graduates - BBC, spy agencies, military/civil service, finance) were helping the socialists shoot themselves in the foot. God bless them!

Boris Johnson: “Let's get Brexit done”
Jeremy Corby: “It’s not about me, it’s not about any of the people on this platform, it’s not a presidential election”

        Yay that's my guy.

Well, unless they fall in and drown face-down in the mud. There has been quite a lot of rain recently.

Obviously these entirely imaginary commie lines would be red!

As a follow-up to my post yesterday about Hannah's question, I have long suspected that the British press lurks on these forums searching for stories and today this has been confirmed! The Guardian (a sub-literate leftist organ) published the following this evening. (The pledge referred to, for those who are even more confused than Hannah, was that Europe would secede from Britain by close of play today.)

Imagine any other prime minister making one single, existential pledge in order to reach office, and then again upon entering it. Imagine that prime minister repeating the sole pledge each day for three months. Imagine him saying he’d die for it. And then imagine him breaking that pledge, openly and unambiguously, and moving on as though nothing had happened.
I assume that the writer, whose day job is perhaps as some sort of spy, has insider information if he is so confident that Mr Johnson will survive beyond midnight? Hannah will be distraught that God has forsaken him.

As I understand it, Guardian readers are not known for wearing pearls, so what do they clutch while doing the above?

They clutch your pearls and use the proceeds to pay for gender reassignment therapy for prisoners.

Ha, my sister got those. Full day set, breakfast, luncheon, tea, dinner and evening, though the opera rings are missing since glass-plate negative days. So they're right out of luck.

Quite the contrary, Didymus: Guardian readers are terribly middle class and notorious for giving their wives pearl necklaces.

Thankfully we might be able to put this thread to bed soon Last week the Britishers voted in a surprize election to hand the stirrups to Boris Johnson giving him a large majority. We've yet to see him wield his Brexit mandate but rest assured... ???.

Indeed, Brother Dr. Toole, Sir. And who knows, at the next shock election they may even hand him the reins as well. It is all very exciting. (and President Trump).

It seems America has popped that ingrown cyst of a President out, and now the wounds can heal. The Brexit dream shall reign on past, while Trump becomes a footnote; Johnson is the True Beauty King.
No spoose should be more attractive than the other - that way, no one is satisfied, and the marriage can be happy.

Clearly you don't know the difference between impeachment and indictment. The godless, liberal, heathen-controlled House voted to impeach Trump. In case you hadn't noticed, he is still President today, even though he was impeached last night. Godly Republicans control the Senate, so he will not be indicted, so he will not be removed from office. Jesus wins. And Brexit, like acquittal, is also a foregone conclusion at this point, not a mere dream but an impending reality. Next on P̶u̶t̶i̶n̶'̶s̶ Jesus's agenda is to replace France's Macron with Marine Le Pen and boot out Angela Merkel with the Alternative for Germany. Brexit, Frexit, and Germexit will finally destroy the EU while Trump smashes the Democrats, and at last Christ's kingdom on earth will arise.
I was sinking deep in sin far from the peaceful shore,
                            Very deeply stained within, sinking to rise no more;
But the Master of the Sea heard my despairing cry,
From the waters lifted me, now safe am I!

You're forgetting Ethpexit: the heathen Spainish are in a little bit of trouble with their EUrOverlords for jailing a rebellious Catalan. The problem is that they did this after he was elected a member of the EUroParliament, when he should have been immune from prosecution or jail or whatever. None of this is clear, as the man had already been in jail for nearly two years awaiting trial, but EUroRegulations are a mystery to everyone, what with being made up on the spot by .... well, nobody knows that either.

Here is a helpful list of who is in charge:

President of the European Council (since December 2019, Charles Michel - a Belgian)
President of the European Commission (since December 2019, Ursula von der Leyen - a German)
President of the European Parliament (since July 2019, David Sassoli - an Eyetie)
President of the Council of the European Union (since July 2019, an anonymous Finish, or possibly the entire population of Finnland, but with effect from next month a Croat, which is not the same as a Kraut)

If anyone knows who is running things, please let President Boris Johnson know. Or don't. It's all the same to him.

Things are much simpler in Britain, as demonstrated over the past 2 years. The entity in charge of Great Britain is the Queen the Prime Minister Parliament the Supreme Court of England the Supreme Court of Scotland the People Rupert Murdoch God President Trump.
