President Obama on Friday took a strong stand in favor of building a mosque near the site where Muslim terrorists flew airplanes into the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, breaking his silence on a political tempest that has left the country divided.

Speaking at a White House dinner celebrating Ramadan, Obama framed the issue as one of religious freedom.

Muslims "have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country," Obama said, according to a White House transcript. "That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in Lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances."

What more needs to be said. Muslims can kill REAL Americans at will, as long as they follow the proper ordances.

I have seen edited clips of Obama's outrageous statements repeated over and over on Fox News (mixed with that footage of the hooded terrorist on the terrorist training camp jungle gym), and I feel like weeping for my country. I hope that this November the voters will send Obama a message by REJECTING Obama's radical call for freedom of religion for Muslims.

When I first heard right-wingers yammering about prohibiting the construction of Islamic buildings anywhere near the crater of the 9/11 terrorist act, my first thought was that would only be acceptable if they prohibited any religious structures anywhere near the place.

You have that right there from the leader of the Mullah of the Unbelievers; Fatwa on building churches. This is the kind of dogma crazed, emotion driven nonsense we REAL Americans face in protecting religious FREEDOM® in the country by stopping the Ground Zero Victory Mosque. Not only do we have to protect our Right to exclude anti-American (as in Baptist) elements like Muslims but we have to face a crazed lynch mob of God mocking atheists.

Since we're on the topic of 9/11, there's something I've been meaning to bring up. It concerns a fine product from Microsoft, a fun program called Flight Simulator.

As some of you may know, the 9/11 terrorists used Microsoft Flight Simulator to train for their mission. This led to some sharp and unjustified criticism of Microsoft. Furthermore, Big Guvmint used the Godly Patriot Act to crack down on people buying Flight Simulator, like this innocent 10-year-old kid, even though his mommy is a Christian. It's just absurd that a wonderful law like the Patriot Act could be abused this way, but what do you expect from liberals like that Mexirican Alberto Gonzales? This was never the intention of the Republican congress - the Patriot Act was only supposed to be used to track down opponents of President Bush who kept blabbing to journalists about things like rigged Diebold voting machines and bogus evidence that Saddam Hussein had atom bombs. Big American corporations were never supposed to be investigated, no matter what they were doing.

But I digress. What REALLY upsets me is that those Saudi terrorists were using PIRATED COPIES of Microsoft Flight Simulator. That's right, not only did they get to destroy our beloved World Trade Center and Pentagon, but the ragheads cheated Microsoft! This affects me deeply and personally, because my company is Microsoft's representative in the Middle East. We import localized Arabic-language versions of Microsoft's software, and Saudi Arabia is one of our biggest customers. In fact, we even spent a good deal of our own money enhancing a customized Arabic version of Flight Simulator with highly detailed classified military maps of New York and Washington DC (note: these are banned in the USA). As we expected, the special "Target America" version of Microsoft Flight Simulator proved to be immensely popular in places like Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Afghanistan. But then those damn 9/11 terrorists used PIRATED VERSIONS!

This situation cannot, and will not, be tolerated. We are now working closely with the Saudi government and the US-based Business Software Alliance to crack down hard on software piracy in the Middle East. We will ensure that next time Al Qaeda trains terrorists to fly into buildings, they will do their training with fully paid-for and legally-licensed copies of Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Arlington, Va.: I'm genuinely stunned that there is even a debate about this. Innocent Muslims died in the World Trade Center attacks too. The U.S. isn't at war with the entire religion, just a very extreme sect within it. Are all Germans Nazis? Of course not. Therefore, not all Muslims are terrorists/part of al-Qaeda. I'm disgusted that so many Americans believe they are one in the same.

John McCormack: I like the analogies because I think they're helpful in determining whether opposition to the mosque is motivated by simple bigotry against Muslims. I don't think it is.

As you can probably tell by my last name, I'm of Irish-American descent. If the IRA had killed 3,000 in the name of Irish nationalism, I think that, even though a number of Irish-Americans were killed in the attack, it would be a horrible idea to put up an Irish cultural center right next to Ground Zero. Regardless of peaceful intentions, it would be a symbolic victory for the IRA and rub salt in the wounds of the victims and their families.

You hear that from the drunken spud tosser; this is totally NOT racial issue about denying a religious minorities right to build a place of worship were they want on the grounds of the majorities emotions.

John McCormack: The Constitution protects both freedom of religion and freedom of speech, so I'm not disputing the right to build there. It's just a really bad idea--and it is made even worse by the fact that Imam Rauf said the United States is an "an accessory to the crime" and won't condemn Hamas as a terrorist organization. But still, he has the right to build the mosque, and opponents have the right to ask him to please move it elsewhere.

So you see, Imam Rauf supports Hamas who were behind 9-11.

Sharia law: I have read that the imam of the ground zero mosque practices Sharia law at home, including stonings. How does that square with the liberal media's portrayal of him as a "moderate Muslim"?

John McCormack: That cannot be true--I think we'd have heard about it by now if Imam Rauf had stoned someone. He seems to be moderate on some issues, but he does respect "Vilayet-i-faqih, which means the rule of the jurisprudent" in Iran. It would be nice if Rauf could clarify what he meant by his apparent endorsement of the Iranian regime.

You hear that. The Imam for the Mosque stones people in his own house!

Decatur, Ala.: Is it true that part of a plane from 9/11 was found in the building where the mosque is to be built?

John McCormack: Yes, that's true. Part of the landing gear from one of the planes crashed into the building.

Small wonder they chose that site.

Fredericksburg, Va.: Why is this a big deal if there's already a mosque nearby?

John McCormack: I have no problem with the 100 mosques in New York City, some of them already somewhat close to Ground Zero. Again, I think it's about the particular symbolism of building a new 13-story Islamic center two blocks from Ground Zero. Opposing this mosque doesn't mean that Muslims don't have the right to pray wherever they want.

Again, how many suicide bomber hang glider schools do the Muslims need?

Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) is slamming conservative opposition to the Muslim community center project near Ground Zero in New York City -- the city where he formerly resided for many years -- calling the attacks against it "one of the most disgraceful things that I've heard."

Franken made the remarks during an appearance in Springfield, Illinois, the State Journal-Register reports, at an event for Democratic county chairmen. Franken also alluded to the unfamiliarity with New York City that many people actually have in regard to this story. "I don't know how many of you have been to New York, but if a building is two blocks away from anything, you can't see it," said Franken.
