  • Liberals mock anti-Obamacare GOP electees on health care

Disgusting. Politico is trying to make the new GOP Congressmen look like hypocrites for demanding their government-funded health care while having campaigned against ObamaCare, another government-funded health care.

A conservative Maryland physician elected to Congress on an anti-Obamacare platform surprised fellow freshmen at a Monday orientation session by demanding to know why his government-subsidized health care plan takes a month to kick in.

Republican Andy Harris, an anesthesiologist who defeated freshman Democrat Frank Kratovil on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, reacted incredulously when informed that federal law mandated that his government-subsidized health care policy would take effect on Feb. 1 – 28 days after his Jan. 3rd swearing-in.

“He stood up and asked the two ladies who were answering questions why it had to take so long, what he would do without 28 days of health care,” said a congressional staffer who saw the exchange. The benefits session, held behind closed doors, drew about 250 freshman members, staffers and family members to the Capitol Visitors Center auditorium late Monday morning,”.

“Harris then asked if he could purchase insurance from the government to cover the gap,” added the aide, who was struck by the similarity to Harris’s request and the public option he denounced as a gateway to socialized medicine.

There is a huge difference between socialized medicine, in which everyone -- working or not -- gets free, government-funded health care, and an employer providing health care to its employees.

    Agreed!

I don't quite like your use of the oxymormon "free, government-funded", though. It's hard to avoid in media... and it's even correct from certain points of view. However, from all meaningful perspectives, anything government-funded cannot, by definition, be free.

Indeed, the Bible speaks out quite eloquently against socialism, teaching us not to give special treatment to people just 'cause they're poor.
    Exodus 23
2 Thou shalt not follow a multitude to [do] evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest [judgment]:
3 Neither shalt thou countenance a poor man in his cause.
    Leviticus 19
15 Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honour the person of the mighty: [but] in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour.

The taxes that are required to support all these poor persons far exceed God's own tithing requirements, too. It would seem that our governments think themselves better than God, Himself! Else they would restrict themselves to 9.9%. Of course, high taxes are what "the people" deserve for not leaning on God and, instead, relying on government-mandated social safety nets.

Personally, I don't need no welfare or medicare or whatnot. God will take care of me, in my need, should I falter in my responsibility to provide for myself. In fact, that's what I'd pray for first... not charity... but a job. Too many people in this country just want the handout.

I know, as a Reverend, you know this better than I. Just sometimes it helps me to understand it all a bit better when I force myself to type it out. It's my way of sorting though things, I guess.

It's an absolute travesty that they would force a rich man to be without health care for an entire month! What villainy!

Yes, suddenly that rich man just gets a new job and they yank his health care way!!! Were not talking some lazy union bum whose job was rightly offshored, were talking about a REAL American here. Union bum rightly deserve to live in rags and eat crackers, but were do they get off with treating a productive member of society this way.
