    What are your favorite hymns?

Last night after Bible study, I was still wide awake when I arrived home. So I grabbed my banjo and joined my wife Delores at the spinet organ for some old time classic hymns!!

    Here are my favorites:

    Abide With Me
    The Lord Is My Shepherd
Pass Me Not O Gentle Savior
Am I A Soldier Of The Cross
    Crown Him With Many Crowns
    Onward, Christian Soldiers
    Nearer, My God, To Thee
Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus
    Kill The Unbelievers
Holy God, We Praise Thy Name (Delores’ favorite)
The Only Good Muslim is a Dead Muslim
Just A Closer Walk With Thee
Kill Them All in a Glorious Holy Bloodfest

Re: What are your favorite hymns?

"Oh! The Blood of Jesus!" Which I Believe was the theme song of the Landover Baptist Church message board some years ago.

"Kill the Unbelievers" sounds rather peppy - perhaps we could upgrade to this? Pastor - Please?

"They'll Know We Are Christians by Our Love"
The Bible, when correctly interpreted, tells us to love everyone.

Re: What are your favorite hymns?

"The squaws along the Yukon" is an old classic hymn that my grandfather used to sing with me.

On a more contemporary note, "Drop Kick Me Jesus Through The Goalposts Of Life" still gives me chills when I hear it sung.

There are a couple of nigra hymns that I find pleasing to the ear on occasion, but I don't know their titles of course. I can't understand their gibberish chatter, but the harmonies can be good and I can make out the word "Jesus" once in awhile. My servants burst out in such song at random times, and I allow it if its entertaining.
        Who Will Jesus Damn?

Here is a partial list from just a few scripture verses:

Hypocrites (Matthew 24:51), The Unforgiving (Mark 11:26), Homosexuals (Romans 1:26, 27), Fornicators (Romans 1:29), The Wicked (Romans 1:29), The Covetous (Romans 1:29), The Malicious (Romans 1:29), The Envious (Romans 1:29), Murderers (Romans 1:29), The Deceitful (Romans 1:29), Backbiters (Romans 1:30), Haters of God (Romans 1:30), The Despiteful (Romans 1:30), The Proud (Romans 1:30), Boasters (Romans 1:30), Inventors of evil (Romans 1:30), Disobedient to parents (Romans 1:30), Covenant breakers (Romans 1:31), The Unmerciful (Romans 1:31), The Implacable (Romans 1:31), The Unrighteous (1Corinthians 6:9), Idolaters (1Corinthians 6:9), Adulterers (1Corinthians 6:9), The Effeminate (1Corinthians 6:9), Thieves (1Corinthians 6:10), Drunkards (1Corinthians 6:10), Reviler (1Corinthians 6:10), Extortioners (1Corinthians 6:10), The Fearful (Revelation 21:8), The Unbelieving (Revelation 21:8), The Abominable (Revelation 21:8), Whoremongers (Revelation 21:8), Sorcerers (Revelation 21:8), All Liars (Revelation 21:8)

Re: What are your favorite hymns?

          A few uplifting favourites:
          Fleeting Days

Time! what an empty vapor 'tis!
Our days, how swift they are,
Swift as an Indian arrow flies,
          Or like a shooting star.

Our life is ever on the wing,
          And death is ever nigh;
The moment when our lives begin,
          We all begin to die.

          Mortality

          Death, like an overflowing stream,
Sweeps us away; our life's a dream,
An empty tale, a morning flow'r,
Cut down and withered in an hour.

          Our age to sev'nty years is set;
How short the time! How frail the state!
And if to eighty we arrive,
We'd rather sigh and groan than live.

          Teach us, Oh Lord, how frail is man;
And kindly lengthen out the span,
Till a wise care of piety
Fit us to die and dwell with Thee.

          Farewell Anthem

My friends, I am going a long and tedious journey,
Never to return. Fare you well my friends,
And God grant we may meet together in that world above,
Where trouble shall cease and harmony shall abound.

Hark! Hark! my dear friends, for death hath called me,
And I must go, and die down in the cold and silent grave,
Where the mourners cease from mourning and the pris'ner is set free:
Where the rich and poor are both alike.
          Fare you well, my friends.

          Praise Him

I'll praise Him while He gives me breath,
I long to praise Him after death.
I'll praise Him when I'm called to die,
And shout salvation when I die.

Time soon shall stop my fleeting breath,
And in His arms resigned to death,
My trembling soul to all can tell
That Jesus doeth all things well.

Then I shall see Him face to face,
And praise Him in that holy place.
          My theme Through all eternity
          Shall glory, glory, glory be.

          Funeral Thought

Thou art gone to the grave, but we will not deplore thee,
          Though sorrows and darkness encompass the tomb;
The Savior has passed through its portals before thee,
And the lamp of His love is thy guide through the gloom.

Thou art gone to the grave, we no longer behold thee,
          Nor tread the rough paths of the world by thy side;
But wide arms of mercy are spread to enfold thee,
And all sinners may hope, since the Savior hath died.

Thou art gone to the grave, and thy cradle's forsaken,
With us thy fond spirit did not tarry long,
But sunshine of heaven beamed bright on thy waking,
And the sound thou didst hear was the seraphim's song.

Thou art gone to the grave, but 'twere wrong to deplore thee,
          When God was thy ransom, thy guardian and guide;
He gave thee, and took thee, and soon will restore thee,
Where death hath no sting, since the Savior hath died.

          Save, Lord, or We Perish

When through the torn sail the wild tempest is streaming,
When o'er the dark wave the red lightning is gleaming,
Nor hope lends a ray the poor seaman to cherish,
We fly to our maker, save, Lord or we perish.

Sorry to make such a long post, but once I get into that swingin' mood, I just can't stop, you know what I'm saying?
O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it--for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen.

God being truth, justice, goodness, beauty, power, and life, man is falsehood, iniquity, evil, ugliness, impotence, and death. God being master, man is the slave. Incapable of finding justice, truth, and eternal life by his own effort, he can attain them only through a divine revelation... he who desires to worship God must harbor no childish illusions about the matter, but bravely renounce his liberty and humanity.

            Not exactly a hymn...but I like it.

Holy Willie's Prayer by Rabbie Burns.

            Especially this bit:

I own t'was rash ,an' rather hardy
            That I,a simple country Bardie,
Should meddle wi' a pack sae sturdy,
            Wha,if they ken me
            Can easy,wi' a single wordie,
            Lowse hell upon me

But I gae mad at their grimaces,
            Their sighin,cantin,grace-proud faces,
            Their three-mile prayers,an' half-mile
            graces,
            Their raxin conscience,
            Whase greed,revenge & pride
            disgraces
            Waur nor their nonsense

            There's Gaw'n,miscad waur than a
            beast
Wha has mair honour in his breast
Than mony scores as guid's the priest
            Wha sae abus'd him:
And may a bard no crack his jest
            What way they've us'd him?

I've always liked the following hymns:

                      The Wondrous Cross
                      Amazing Grace
                      Crown Him with Many Crowns
                      Were You There

It's so hard to choose a list of favorites. There are so many good hymns. The 4 that are listed above are only a small sampling of my favorites list.

Jimmie? Your customers call you Jimmie now?
