A most interesting description of your exotic and unusual lifestyle, Shehijab honey!

I've already exposed myself as a liar, and if you must know, I use a Sony VAIO VGN-TX27GP.

Turning off the luminescent screen and running minimal programs ensures slightly longer life, and I will concede that we do tend to stay somewhat near towns.

Finally, multiple replacement batteries is a smart investment. I have a few extras to fall back on. Given my lifestyle, we must adapt however we can.

My lifestyle may not sound difficult, but I imagine you have it better than I.

One certainly does learn how to be conservative when traveling about in the deserts of Egypt, doesn't one. I'm impressed, that's what. It's impressing.
Read your Bible, boys and girls. Jesus likes educated people. That's my take on it.

Expensive laptop for a poor person? I'll admitt battery life on those are 8.5 hours so that part of your defense is plausable. Another question.... how do you get your internet access? The hotels you stay in can't be all bad as you say if they allow internet access? Seriously! drop the act!

                  What act?

Yes, I will concede again that I do not live as a "true" nomad. If I've acknowledged my defeat and given you what you want, why do you continue to attack me?

You seem to be interested in my personal life a great deal, Ms. C. What I have done to earn this ire, I don't know or understand, but I'll continue to try to mend this.

I never said the hotels weren't bad, I said they weren't lavish. They're just normal hotels, not expensive suites or anything.

As for how I access the internet while not in a hotel, I use one of those routers that you insert into the laptop itself, allowing it to pick up signals from towns or cities.

Yes, I did state that my family was very poor in my other thread, but I will concede that we are able to afford certain luxuries such as my laptop or hotel stays. Other than hotel visits, food, water, hygienic products, or any other necessities, we don't spend much.

What more could you want from me?

Of course you use a good computer and a router and wireless internet, while plodding along on the dunes high up on camelback!

You shouldn't pay that Lady C person any mind, you shouldn't care what she thinks, she hasn't got nice manners like yours, Shehera!

Thank you, Ms. Noddy, but I strive to avoid having a strained relationship with any possible friends here.....

Forgive me, but I never use my computer while on my camel. There's the risk of it falling to the sand. I use it whenever we rest.

I will concede to Ms. C yet again and say that we actually are hardly nomads at all. We stay a distance from towns and cities and travel to the next, then we will actually go and spend a night or two in an affordable hotel. We spend most of our nights in campsites we set up. Yes, I was slightly dishonest in that aspect.

It goes to show I still have a lot of work to do. I confessed my large lie, but here I am attempting a minor one. Thank you for opening my eyes, Ms. C.

You are a fool and a troll, lady_c, the Wi-Fi distance record is now 237 miles.

It's been a while since we've seen people muck around with long-distance WiFi -- not only are DIY solutions like cantennas possibly illegal, sexier technologies like WiMAX have emerged to better serve those long-distance IP needs. WiFi's flame burns on in Latin America, however, where researcher Ermanno Pietrosemoli has managed to shoot an 802.11 signal 382 kilometers (237 miles) between two mountains in the Venezuelan Andes. Pietrosemoli, who is president of Latin American networking association Escuela Latinoamerica de Redes, used some of Intel's long-range WiFi tech and $60 worth of Linksys hardware to achieve throughput of 3 Mbps in each direction and beat the former record of 310 kilometers (192 miles). Pietrosemoli hopes to use the tech to serve developing nations, but seeing as we barely get 3 Mbps in our WiFi-choked apartment building with the laptop sitting next to the router, we're hoping he lets us in on the secret as well.Read - CNET ArticleRead - Interview with Ermanno Pietrosemoli
