Nobody at my church speaks in tongues, it was Ezekial that brought up speaking in tongues and lilpentacostalgirl that mentioned participating in it. All I did was point out that it's in the bible and isn't demon possession in the proper context, which would be in the presence of the Holy Spirit. Or at most, people pretending to feel closer to God, regardless of whether they are in public or not. Nice to hear from you pastor.

According to things I've seen on tv and in movies, it's always the fattest lady in the congregation who speaks in tongues. She falls over on the floor and shakes the whole building with her weight. Then she starts writhing, screaming, passing gas, kicking, biting things. And the horrible sounds that come from their mouths! No, it's nothing to be proud of. It's a wretched sight.

In the Bible, the gift of tongues meant that the apostles spoke in their own language, but the listeners each heard in their own languages. It was a true miracle.

On the other hand in the Pentecostal Church, the gift of tongues means some old lady jumps out into the aisle during the middle of the sermon and starts having a seizure and shouting gobbledy-gook, and only the preacher claims to be able to understand.

dee dee dee? I thought your name was tLakota.

If the typo was so obvious, why did you not see it?

No, I think you wrote just what you meant, harlot! Seductress!

Don't even try that one on me. Maybe you should talk to that woman and ask why she wants to be a homewrecker. Seriously, who would want to comment on an obvious typo with such filth?

First of all I do not kiss snakes but I have spoke in lounges, which is in the bible its one of the gifts. I am saved in the lord and I try my best to live according to his word. Do you know why there is so many different denominations? because people can not agree with what they believe is or is not in the bible. Being baptist or catholic does not make you a Christian its your personal relation ship with the father, son and the holy ghost and not what church you go to. This is how cults start!

Well, if the dieting doesn't work, there's always cancer. That'll take a few pounds off before you die.

I've read the document. It appears that it focuses on the lingual translation of tongues to others, and whether or not a rushing wind or fire is seen upon those that speak in tongues at services. But I found 2 problems in this article. One, they talk about the permanent indwelling of the Holy Spirit to be vital to the validity of speaking in tongues. But how is it that you decide who has the spirit descend upon them when the article itself contradicts itself with Paul's admission of praying in tongues.

In 1 Corinthians 14:14-15, Paul is correcting the error of using tongues as prayer language. In verse 15 he says that he would pray and sing both with his understanding, because to do otherwise is unfruitful. Plainly Paul is condemning those that had perverted the gift of tongues by teaching it was a prayer language. Earlier in verse 2, he concluded that when men spoke in tongues no one understood but God. He points out the singing and praying in a language that no one else knows does not help that person by teaching those present the truth. This is always in view in the Bible and in the correct use of tongues.

According to this article, speaking in tongues is still a prayer language if authentically brought
on by the Spirit. It seems the biggest point of the article is to avoid abuse by false prophets looking to get rich.

Two, nowhere in this article do they say that people that practice speaking in tongues are possessed by demons or some other malevolent force.

Paul says, "my spirit prayeth" in other words those that practice tongues as a prayer language are not doing so though the Holy Spirit, but by their human spirit. Using 1 Corinthians 14:14 as an example of "praying in tongues" is a gross error. Praying in the spirit, as practiced by the modern tongues movement is promoted as being something highly desired, yet God, speaking through the Apostle Paul condemns it. Today modern tongues is presented as a special spiritual communication with God, but the truth is the Bible does not teach this anywhere! In Verse 9, Paul says that speaking in tongues as the Corinthians were doing was "speaking into the air."

I don't see demon possessed in this statement at all. If anything, they make fake or add a little theatrics to 'speaking into the air' but that doesn't mean they are possessed or that they don't give thanks to God properly in another way. If anything, it seems to be another matter of harmless self-indulgence if not misused. If you disagree strongly, please post more scripture to back up your position. After all, the Bible only says so much and alot is left to speculation or is taken out of context due to the first translation.

On a final note, a little off topic. I had a little issue with this part of the article. Keep in mind, anyone can start a website and fill it with their ideas to influence others. If I knew who wrote it or influenced it, I might be more willing to take all the info at heart level.

There is no reference in the Bible of a woman speaking in tongues. In 1 Corinthians 14:34, women were forbidden to speak in tongues in public. In contrast to that, in tongues speaking churches today, it is practiced mostly by women. Paul says if they had questions they were to ask their husbands at home.

Paul's reference to women was to Jewish Housewives in the synagogue, which was the main place of worship back then, not to members of the Church. Also, with only a few references to speaking in tongues/to the air in the bible, why would it be a big deal that they weren't referenced to women? The Jewish culture is different to ours. And the current Jewish culture varies from the Bible era versions. What's your thoughts on that?
