There are many people that found God only after the abuse of drugs, but they are often embraced with open arms once they have converted. Why must Michael be held at a higher standard? He's just a kid. We all make mistakes, isn't that why God's message is of compassion and forgiveness, not spite?
He chose to put himself in the position of role model to millions of American youth. He secured contracts for endorsements that would leave him set for life.

Then, he blew it all because he was unable to resist the lure of dope.

You want us to encourage that behavior? Maybe all our children should be drug-addled losers, eh?

Let us know how that works out for ya.
I think you misunderstood me. I never said it should be smoked, nor should cyanide or arsenic. But neither of those substances are illegal, yet cannabis is. If he had 20 beers and nearly died of alcohol poisoning, there would probably be no thread at all. I'm stating that I believe the laws about cannabis to be an error of man, and not to see him as an evil man because he made a mistake with a substance that happens to be illegal. There are so many posts saying he defied God with his actions, when in fact, he only defied man. He needs our prayers as much as anyone, but you deny him that, why?

"Bla bla bla, I ignore the law." That's all I hear. Save your effort. I'm going to start buying MORE Kellog's and Subway and think about Michael Phelps the whole time.
May you be a blessing to every life you touch.

Hemp, that is, cannabis, is perfectly legal.

If he were wearing a hemp shirt, nobody would care.

Only the strains of cannabis selected (by humans) to produce high levels of THC, sold as an intoxicant on the black market, are illegal.

Actually under federal law hemp can be processed and sold in the US but to grow the plant is illegal.

I firmly believe that drug users that abuse crystal meth and heroin need to be punished, although really they punish themselves, because the drugs they use hurt themselves and other people around then in addition to taking them away from faith.

However I have heard that cannabis has been proven to reduce tumors, and aid people with MS. If this is true then it seems like some medicinal use of cannabis should be allowed, but I don't want to support something if the Bible truly says it is wrong. I have heard from people here that the bible never says it is wrong and from others that it does. Does anybody have a good argument either way?

Well we care about what God wants. Those people have tumors and such for a reason. Why should we sit back and let these hippies break the law?

The Bible commands that we obey secular law. Otherwise we would still have slaves and there would be no witches left alive.

Here I have some genuine confusion on what we are allowed to do while still obeying the Bible. If we are to obey secular law then are we not allowed to fight against secular laws that we think are wrong? I live in a pro choice state, am I not allowed to fight against the laws that allow women to kill God's children because they find them inconvenient?

I of course care about what God wants. I believe that God wants us to help each other and love one another.

If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? John 3:17

If there are sick people with tumors and MS in the world and we are able to help them but instead turn our backs on them does God not condemn us? I am a good Christian and you seem to suggest that people who are sick deserve it and should not be helped! (if that is not what you meant please clarify) This goes against what I have been taught as a Christian and what God wants us to do for each other.

I meant that they should be punished by the law because they are detrimental to our society and can seriously harm their children and loved ones emotionally and physically. They should receive aid from rehab centers, but their behavior should be never be condoned and I believe that since those drugs have absolutely no medical benefit use of them should be punishable by law.

To say that heroin addicts and innocent people who are ill or diagnosed with cancer are in equal situations seems a little crazy. I'm just saying that pass off people who have cancer as "They deserve it" is not what God wants us to do. If there is potential to help them then we should. We should also help heroin addicts, but they also need to answer to laws they have broken.

I DO NOT condone the use of marijuana for getting high. I have never used it and I never will. However if a chemical in the plant can fight cancer I see no harm in using it. If you have a reason why this would be against God's will then I would genuinely like to know why. I do not know of a part of the Bible that prohibits cannabis use, but I do not know every single Bible verse so if you have useful information please submit it so that people who do smoke pot can be shown solid evidence against their ways.

You know who says that marijuana is good for medicine? Liberals and hippies who want to make it legal for getting high so the entire world will become addicted to reefer! I have yet to see ONE Creation Scientist make those claims!!

You don't fool anyone! You come in here posing as some kind of "sister" who "just wants to help the poor suffering cancer patients," but then you conveniently ask the same questions as all your other druggie pals, "Where does it say in the Bible not to smoke pot?'', when that question has already been answered.

The Bible doesn't say not to swallow battery acid either. Are you going to go do that?

I have yet to hear you extol the most powerful tool known to Mankind for battling disease: PRAYER!

Oh yes you have found out that I am a Christian who support medicinal marijuana. I have been feeling unsure lately if this goes against my Christian beliefs, and I simply wanted to know for sure if I was going against the Lord. If the answer is the Bible does not say it is wrong then I guess I have my answer that medical marijuana is fine. I do want to help cancer patients, that's not a lie. I pray for the sick, but I also do not shun them for getting Western Medicine when they are sick. You do not support Christian discussion you label me as a "druggie" and call me a liar. I pray for the people here to learn tolerance!

According to secular law in the state of California, medicinal marijuana is perfectly legal. So, are they subject to the same ridicule and persecution as states without such laws. Also, what about foreign law? The Netherlands has a completely legal stance on all forms of cannabis. The primary flaw in your response is that secular law is not universal, it is ever-changing and varies so widely that (according to you) one person could be sinning while another person is completely in the right committing the exact same act.

California and The Netherlands are both communist countries. You could hardly expect scum like that to behave morally.
