Has it ever occurred to any of you that the Counter Strike and other many First Person Shooters and violent games actually function as an outlet?

A lot of people would be rolling around the streets armed to teeth while being on the brink of collapsing under stress.

You make it sound like it's normal for people to want to go out and massacre eachother. But people didn't do that before there were video games. Checkmate.

And to clarify, I am an Atheist, please don't let religious views blur and ruin a good debate.

Bruce Lee murdered 26 people. The Flint Journal article says "Bible reading was his only consolations" and he quoted the bible saying "Matthew 6, verse 24 no servant can be a serve of two masters."

David Berkowitz (Corbis) called the SON OF SAM, murdered more than 10 women. The newspaper said "He called himself a born again Christian"

The Yorkshire Rapier "was on a divine mission and felt he had been chosen to hear the word of GOD (JESUS)." Reported the Flint Journal. He murdered 11 girls.

Miller a serial killer had that thing called faith, believed in Jesus. The Flint Journal article says he was always carrying the Bible.

Sampson Kanderayi, a mass murderer called The Ax Killer, killed more than 30 people. The newspaper reported "he did it to appease evil spirits." He was a Christian

Watts, The Sunday Morning Slasher killed 11 women. This article says he did it "to eliminate evil spirits".

Jeffery Dahmer was a son of a fundamentalist.

Seems to me that Christianity could also be causing people to go on killing sprees.

okay first off you guys are so damn close minded, im a roman catholic and i LOVE counter strike and i play so much more violent games then that and im not gay i have a girlfriend and i love her so much, and if you guys had any brains you would know that symbol is the is the symbol is chemisty for the half life of substances and chemicals and they put it in the game why? cause its called half life, and the "s and m" mask is a balaclava used to keep the mojority of the face conceled to hide ones identity, and i know many many girls that play violent games like this, and further more counter strike isnt that violent if you want violent try the gears of war series or better yet for you church fanatics, dantes inferno, and further more if that stupid kid couldnt tell the diffrence between the game and reality something was terribly wrong with him. stop being so closed minded and stop blaming the wrong things for the proplems in the world!!

Since when is acting violently a way to reduce violence? Sure there were some crack pot new age morons who peddled that back in the 70's but it's bunk. The more you practice violence, the more violent you become.

You want an outlet? Go chop a cord of wood, go for a run, go play a game at the park. By the time you're finished that, you'll be too worn out to be angry.

Then why are there SO LITTLE reports on UFC, K1, Boxing, Krav Maga and whichever sport enthusiasts who turn healthy young people into vegetables?
That's right, they have an outlet to vent daily stress.
Some people do this with physical exercise, others with mental exercise like puzzles and math and algebra.
And you have gamers who, as the name suggests, play games calm down and relax.
