Sometimes when you do not know a word you can look it up I looked up hype and it said among other things exaggerated publicity; hoopla an ingenious or questionable claim, method, etc., used in advertising, promotion, or publicity to intensify the effect a swindle, deception, or trick.

This is under the noun part of the definition it can also be a verb they think it came from the word hyperbole which I used to mispronounce.
