I am very sorry to inform you that you have heard wrong. The Neanderthals were definitely not smarter, and not that much bigger - just a bit chunky. Were they stronger? Maybe, minimally, due to their heavier - on average - body structure.

We know they weren't very smart because they were much less innovative in terms of creating tools and other material culture, comparing to the fully modern Homo sapiens sapiens.

...All of which should show you that they were not as smart as you think they were. Ultimately, they failed to adapt and were replaced by us - and we kept adapting to and modifying the environment. Whether some of their genes still circulate among us, is a subject of a heated debate.

I am not sure which volcanic incident relates to the demise of Neanderthals in your view, though?... That's a weird hypothesis, I never heard of it before.

You're very cute but not too convincing. For instance, the absolute brain size does not necessarily correlate to higher intelligence, nor is there any clear causality between the volume of your CNS and your IQ.
